It is. Clearly visualize whatever place it is. Also, clearly visualize it like visualizing form. Clearly visualize it just as you experience the appearance of shapes and colors. Then, the clarity that arises in the mind, clearly visualize it as appearing but without inherent existence. Like a reflection, meditate on appearing but without any inherent nature. Then, also gradually diminish the object of appearance with the mind, meditating on it until it is the size of a hair tip. Then, finally, like a rainbow disappearing, meditate on it until it is ultimately unobservable. Whatever conceptual thoughts arise regarding an object, meditate in that way. Clearly visualizing on objects is because, from beginningless samsara, familiarity and habit make it easy to grasp the object. By meditating on appearance as being without inherent existence, it is easy to prevent attachment to objects. Then, meditating on appearance as being unobservable is the main practice of meditative equipoise. The way of meditating for a person of middling faculties is: without needing to rely on clearly visualizing an object, meditate using the two, appearance without inherent existence and appearance also unobservable. The way of meditating for a person of superior faculties is: without relying on either clearly visualizing an object or meditating on appearance without inherent existence, when any conceptual thought arises in one's own consciousness, analyze the nature of the conceptual thought with discriminating wisdom, and then meditate on it as being unobservable. For example, just as a wave arises from the ocean and then dissolves back into it, so too, conceptual thought arises from the state of the unborn nature of reality and then dissolves back into the state of the unborn nature of reality. After becoming proficient in the way of meditating for a person of inferior faculties, learn the way of meditating for a person of middling faculties. After becoming proficient in the middling, learn the way of meditating for a person of superior faculties. From the order of small, medium, and great, it is divided into three stages. The three stages of the way of meditating should also be practiced as having four branches. May there be auspiciousness! Whatever conceptual thought arises is the branch of the object. Recognizing it as unobservable is the branch of the antidote. When conceptual thought ceases and non-conceptual samadhi arises, free from distraction and agitation, it is the branch of the actual meaning. Afterwards, observing with mindfulness whether conceptual thought arises or not is the branch of mindfulness. This is also meditating with the four branches.

At that time, if there is dullness, then practice on the five objects; if there is agitation, then practice on the sixth consciousness. The samadhi of the heat position is also divided into three types: small, medium, and large. Among them, when entering samadhi, the opposing factors of heat arise slightly; if they do not arise when entering samadhi, then it is medium heat; if they do not arise even when not entering samadhi, then it is great heat. The samadhi of the heat position has been taught. When teaching the peak position, the preliminary practice and the main practice, as well as the methods for eliminating dullness and agitation, are the same as before. The difference lies in gradually obtaining the ability to destroy the great, medium, and small grasping and clinging, thereby teaching the small, medium, and large peak positions. These two heat positions and peak positions mainly cut off the manifested obscurations of knowledge, grasping, and clinging. In the forbearance position, the way of practicing the preliminary practice and the main practice, as well as the way of eliminating dullness and agitation, are the same as before. This teaches the small, medium, and large forbearance positions by gradually cutting off the great, medium, and small discriminations that cling to reality. The supreme dharma position is that the preliminary practice and the main practice, as well as the way of eliminating dullness and agitation, are the same as before. The difference lies in gradually cutting off the great, medium, and small discriminations of imputation and clinging, and the small, medium, and large supreme dharma positions arise in sequence. The common branches of practicing the four preparations are four: the branch of habituation, the branch of clear observation, the branch of entering into intention, and the branch of time and place. The first is that one should abide in the mind for a long time without interruption on the meaning of what is to be practiced. The second is that one should focus on any object such as form, and observe that it appears but has no self-nature, which is the branch of clear observation. The third is that one enters by showing desire with the power of the ability of the previous mind. The fourth is that the session is short, the object is clear, the number is large, the antidote is tight, the awareness is relaxed, the session interval is known, the object of entry is observed, the aspect is transformed, the measure is held, the faults are eliminated, and the signs are combined. There are eleven in total. Session ༄༅། །The small one is when the mind is held, the object of meditation does not leave one's own seat, and it is clear.
