If one becomes lazy and does not accumulate negative karma, one will achieve excellence within seven lifetimes. Also, in the Kalachakra it is said: 'Even without diligence and without cultivating wisdom, one will attain enlightenment at the end of seven lifetimes.' This is certain. Furthermore, the Whispered Transmission says: 'Having the instructions of the Six Yogas, even without practicing, one will achieve in seven lifetimes.' Fourth, the signs of accomplishment through meditation. The signs of accomplishment through meditation are twofold: the way it is taught in the Kalachakra and the way it is taught in other tantras. First, the way it is taught in the Kalachakra. Firstly, the way the signs appear is: 'For emptiness, there appear smoke, mirages, clear light, stainless space, and a flame.' Therefore, in a dark room, relying on a special posture and mental focus, the winds and mind enter the central channel, and the clear light of the mind becomes directly visible. The way of seeing it is: first like smoke, then like a mirage, then like a firefly, and finally like the clear light of a flame. The way it appears when meditating on daytime yoga is: 'One will see flames, the moon, the sun, vajras, supreme parts, and bindus.' As it is said, first a yellow flame, then a white flame like the moon, then a red flame like the sun, a black flame like a vajra, that is, like Rahu, supreme parts like lightning, and the appearance of blue bindus. Thus, by diligently meditating on daytime and nighttime yoga, in the center of the bindu, one will not see the physical form of a Buddha, but the light associated with wisdom, free from the forms of the three realms and three times. Then, one will see a black line in the central channel, and within it, one will see 'the form of the All-Knowing One,' which is the essence of the Dharmakaya, the forms of the three realms and three times, as clear as the reflection of the sun in water. This is also called 'emptiness endowed with all perfections,' also called 'the clear light of the mind,' and also called 'Mahamudra.' These are what beginners in yoga will see directly with their physical eyes. Second, the way it is taught in other tantras. The way it is taught in other tantras, the Guhyasamaja speaks of five signs. The first is like a mirage, the second is like smoke, the third is like a firefly, the fourth is like a flame, and the fifth is like cloudless sky. Among these, the second is said to be like smoke. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nāropa said that in order to rely on the guru's oral instructions, it is necessary to agitate (the mind) and speak. The upper commentary of the Glorious Śrīcakrasaṃvara also says: 'First seeing smoke, know that it is not a mirage.' Therefore, one should know through one's own experience. So, the mirage is the first sign. In the Vajrapañjara it says: 'Clouds are the first sign, and smoke is the second.' All of these should be understood as having profound meaning. The Nāmasaṃgīti speaks of the signs of daytime yoga: 'Arising from the sky, self-born, wisdom prajñā great fire (seeing yellow flames burning), great light illuminates everything, wisdom light shines (seeing the moon), the lamp of beings (is the sun), the lamp of wisdom (is Vajradhara), glorious great light (like lightning, is the supreme part), possessing supreme mantra, king of vidyā mantras (is the bindu), king of secret mantras, accomplishing great meaning (seeing the empty form of all aspects).' Thus it is said. Therefore, from the Guhyasamāja, five signs of names are spoken, and from the Nāmasaṃgīti, five signs of daytime are spoken. Thus, the ten signs, etc., are the direct perception of empty form, which is direct yoga, but it is not the direct perception of the noble ones, so it is not universal. Fifth The distinction between what is to be purified and the purifier lies in the basis of what is to be purified: the collection of primordial Buddha wisdom that has always resided in all sentient beings, and the six wisdom realms such as Vajrasattva. What is to be purified is the collection of impure samsaric wisdom, etc., which are six. The purifier is the samādhi of the Vajrasattva lineage, the path of prajñāpāramitā, and the ten distinctions of seeing signs, such as the limbs of individual collection. Sixth The fruit of meditation is: through stable habituation, obtaining the temporary fruit, which is the accomplishment of true speech; the ultimate fruit is obtaining the fruit of Vajrasattva and other six wisdom realms, free from obscurations. Second The limbs of meditation include: the meaning of the name, the time of meditation, the limbs of the method of meditation, the signs and extent of meditation, the distinction between what is to be purified and the purifier, and the fruit obtained by meditation, etc., which are six aspects. The meaning of the name First is: through individual collection, the mind abides in one-pointedness on the empty form seen, therefore it is called meditation.
