Settle down relaxedly and clearly, without focusing the mind. In that state, if thoughts arise, recognize them and cut them off completely and immediately. Do not follow the thoughts, nor be distracted, but settle down relaxedly and clearly. Like this, maintain the practice very strictly in three sessions, until signs of accomplishment arise, and then engage in meditation. Signs of accomplishment: The body may tremble or shake, sometimes feel itchy, sometimes feel heavy, sometimes feel like the body is growing, sometimes feel hot, sometimes feel cold, and so on. Various things may occur. In terms of speech, one may laugh, cry, or sing involuntarily, sometimes not want to speak, roar with a long, trembling breath, sometimes the breath becomes very slow, sometimes one feels like the breath has stopped, and so on. Various things may occur. In terms of mind, thoughts may stop wandering and settle into stillness, sometimes one may feel sad or angry, involuntarily fall into distraction, have feelings of liking or disliking, and so on. Various things may occur. Furthermore, the darkness of the meditation room may disappear and become bright like dawn, or visions of smoke, clouds, and so on may appear, or visions of mirages, oceans, waterfalls, and so on may appear, or visions of fireflies, candles, and so on may appear, or visions of clear, cloudless sky may appear, or visions of stars, rainbows, and so on may appear. These are signs of accomplishment of body, speech, and mind. At that time, if sleep decreases or symptoms of imbalance occur, one should restore balance with appropriate diet and medicine, and through massage, and then continue to meditate. Avoid sleeping during the day, and get enough sleep in the middle of the night. In the evening and at dawn, for about a quarter of the time, strive in virtuous practice. The lama or experienced guide should ask about the physical condition as usual, and if the posture is incorrect, correct it, and skillfully ask about the meditation experience, without missing any details. Some may become excited by the meditation experience, or feel uncomfortable, at which point one should introduce the state of no problem, and so on. It is very important to be skilled in guiding. This is the common and uncommon preliminary instruction. These knowledge, bases, and instructions can be found in the great instruction manuals, correct recognition, clarification of meaning, and complete revelation of secrets, and so on, and are not elaborated here. Main Practice Second, the main practice includes the six branches of the profound path Vajra Yoga. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One should practice the three-fold guidance of virtue in the beginning, middle, and end: the two, withdrawal (sor sdud) and meditation (bsam gtan), are the guidance of virtue in the beginning; the two, life-force exertion (srog rtsol) and holding ('dzin pa), are the guidance of virtue in the middle; the two, mindfulness (rjes dran) and samadhi (ting nge 'dzin), are the guidance of virtue in the end. The two, withdrawal and meditation, are the guidance of virtue in the beginning. First, there are the two, withdrawal and meditation. Withdrawal First, there are six aspects: Meaning of the name The meaning of the name 'withdrawal' (so sor sdud) is that the consciousness of the senses such as the eyes, which are attached to the five objects such as forms, are separately withdrawn, so that the physical eyes no longer attach to forms, etc. Therefore, it is called 'withdrawal'. The reason for needing to withdraw is that the five sense consciousnesses grasping the five objects such as forms is the cause of samsara. Second Timing of practice The timing of practice is: at the beginning of practicing withdrawal, one should practice in accordance with the flow of air from the right nostril, but at other times it is not necessary to do so. Third How to practice withdrawal There are three ways to practice withdrawal: practicing the yoga of day and night, powa (the practice of transferring consciousness), and even if one dies in the middle of practice, one can enter (the state) due to the power of habituation. Practicing the yoga of day and night First, the yoga of day and night is further divided into the seamless sky yoga of night and the cloudless sky yoga of day. The seamless sky yoga of night First, the place of practice is: the same place where one relies on the three solitudes mentioned earlier. The method of practice is as stated in the treatise of Shawaripa: 'Immovability is possessing the three, with wisdom the ten winds are absorbed, external and internal breaths cease, signs appear, it is a limb of separate cutting.' Like this, one should practice with the three immovabilities. The body's channels remain immovable, at the beginning of each session, first perform the common preliminaries and visualize the yidam deity, clearly and briefly. Then, maintain the posture described in the context of the three solitudes. The speech's breath remains immovable, one should also practice the speech solitude of the three solitudes. Third, awareness remains immovable, one should keep the mind and awareness in a state free from the proliferation of thoughts. Among these, there are four ways to keep the mind. First, keeping the mind and awareness without thinking of anything, is to keep the mind in its natural, unaltered state, without thinking of anything, such as existence or non-existence, and without paying attention to it, remaining calm. Second, keeping the mind and awareness focused on one point, in a state where the body and speech are immovable, use the gaze to control awareness. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
