3-19 'The signs of the clear light night will become manifest.' The way they appear: first like smoke, second like a mirage, then a sky-like appearance like fireflies, then like a flame. This is the order of appearance. As it is said, 'In a cloudless, clear sky, the yogi should look with wide-open eyes.' Therefore, in a cloudless, clear daytime sky, by focusing single-pointedly as before, the signs of the day will appear: first the appearance of a blazing yellow color, then the appearance of a blazing white moon, the appearance of a blazing red sun, and the appearance of a blazing black Vajra (Rāhu). These are the four signs of the day. Then there is the supreme part, the appearance of lightning and the appearance of a blue bindu. These two are considered to pervade the previous eight. Nāropa considers these two to also be signs of the day. Then, in the center of the bindu, because countless forms of Buddhas have been formed, the Sambhogakāya (enjoyment body) and Nirmāṇakāya (emanation body) appear, being separate from objects and not conceived by the mind, and separate from forms. And one can also hear the indestructible sound. If one meditates for as long as possible, one will see a black line as thin as a hair in the Avadhūti channel, and within it one will also see clear light of various colors, until one sees the form of the all-knowing one. The way the winds enter the central channel is: the left channel (Ida) generates the five winds of earth, water, fire, wind, and space in sequence, and the right channel (Pingala) gathers the five winds of earth, water, fire, wind, and space in sequence. By the method of binding, the winds are prevented from flowing through the left and right channels, and they are made to enter the central channel, from which the clear lights gradually become manifest. The signs do not disappear before the later ones arise, nor do the earlier ones transform into the later ones, because they arise naturally from the sky.' 3-20 'By meditating in this way, one will attain the wisdom body, and from this, one will attain various siddhis (accomplishments) such as miraculous powers in the best way, in the second rebirth in the intermediate way, and in the sixth rebirth in the worst way.' The earlier lamas considered the ten definite signs and the various appearances of houses, etc., to be indefinite signs. Regarding the way experiences arise, the physical experience is: when the earth wind is controlled, the body becomes heavy and swollen; when the water wind is controlled, the body becomes cold and soft; when the fire wind is controlled, the body becomes warm. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the earth element is seized by wind, the body feels heavy. If the water element is seized by wind, the body feels cold. If the fire element is seized by wind, the body feels hot and sweaty. If the wind element is seized by wind, the body feels light. If the space element is seized by wind, it feels like the body doesn't exist. The experiences of the mind are: If the earth element is seized by wind, the mind feels dull or sinks deep down. If the water element is seized by wind, the mind feels clear. If the fire element is seized by wind, it feels somewhat scattered and irritable. At this time, one should rest. If the wind element is seized by wind, the mind feels clear but becomes scattered. If the space element is seized by wind, the mind feels clear and abides in non-thought. The experiences of dreams are: If the earth element is seized by wind, in dreams there will be smoke or dust, or being pressed down by heavy objects, etc. If the water element is seized by wind, one dreams of water. If the fire element is seized by wind, one dreams of fire. If the wind element is seized by wind, one dreams of flying in the sky. If the space element is seized by wind, one dreams of seeing vast fields. For beginners, the ways of generating Samadhi (ཏིང་ངེ་འཛིན་,समाधि,Samādhi,三摩地) are five: Shaking, Obtaining, Habituation, Stability, Completion. These are the ways of generating the path of Samadhi. They are illustrated by a steep mountain, water, a bird, an old person and water in a bamboo tube, and a mountain. First, the shaking Samadhi is: Through meditation, one feels that thoughts increase. For example, like water on a steep mountain. This is because meditation generates the desire to arise and recognizes thoughts. Then, the obtaining Samadhi is: abiding slightly in non-thought. For example, like a bird. Then, the habituation Samadhi is: mostly abiding in non-thought, occasionally some thoughts flash. For example, like an old person or a turtle in a trough. During these three stages, external circumstances hinder meditation. Then, the stable Samadhi is: abiding calmly in non-thought. For example, like water in a bamboo tube. During this stage, external circumstances do not hinder. The completion Samadhi is: nothing hinders meditation, and external circumstances actually help. For example, like a mountain. The yogi's channel structure is different, so the experiences will also be different, and this should be understood. The second is the way it is spoken of in other Tantras: In the later Tantra of the Guhyasamaja (གསང་འདུས་,guhyasamāja,秘密集会) it says: 'First is the appearance of a mirage, second is the appearance of smoke.' The appearance of a mirage is the first sign, and like cloudless space is the fifth sign. In the Vajra Tent (རྡོ་རྗེ་གུར་,vajraguhya,金刚幕) it says: 'First is like a cloud, second is like smoke.' It is said that Naropa (ནཱ་རོ་པ་) deliberately reversed this in order to make people rely on the oral instructions of the Guru.
