'Having attachment, yet being free from attachment,' is expressed through speech. 2-20 Like this. The characteristic of an uncertain sign that does not confuse contradictions is: relying on scripture, establishing mutually contradictory meanings on the same subject, thereby creating doubt. For example, the direct speaker Gzegs Zan (Atomist) said: 'In general, everything has disappeared.' Therefore, his direct disciple Be Lu Ga said: 'The generality of a cow exists in the unmanifest void, because it meets, gathers, and is completely connected with all the manifestations of cows in infinite time and space, one by one.' And Pe Tha Ras said: 'The generality of a cow does not exist in the unmanifest void, because it is not observed there.' Both consider the sign relying on Gzegs Zan's scripture to be correct, therefore neither can be refuted. Third, regarding the unestablished sign, for both the proponent and the opponent, there are three cases of unestablishedness: the sign, the basis of the subject is unestablished; there are three doubts about the connection between the sign and the subject; the basis, the dharma, and the sign are not different; a part of the sign is unestablished on the subject; and the sign is unestablished on a part of the subject; and fourteen cases such as not having the intention to understand. First, for the proponent, an example of unestablishedness is: the Samkhya to the Buddhist says: 'Blo bde (Intelligent One), is without mind, because it is subject to arising and ceasing.' For the opponent, an example of unestablishedness is: the naked ascetic to the Buddhist says: 'Trees have mind, because they die when their bark is peeled off.' For both, an example of unestablishedness is: 'Sound is permanent, because it is the object of eye consciousness.' The nature of the sign cannot exist, for example: 'This person is free from attachment, because he is the son of Mo Sham.' The basis of the subject is unestablished, for example: 'The self of a person (Ganga zag gi bdag) is universally present, because qualities, happiness, etc., are observed everywhere.' There is doubt about the sign, for example: while doubting whether it is mist or smoke, 'The blue blind spot of the sky is a precursor to fire, because there is smoke.' There is doubt about the subject, for example: 'The vase of Lkal don sha za is a form, because it is eternally existent.' There is doubt about the connection between the basis and the sign, for example: while doubting whether there is the sound of a peacock in the middle of the valley, 'The middle of the three valleys has peacocks, because there is the sound of a peacock.' The basis and the sign are not different, for example: 'Sound is.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For example, 'The subject is impermanent, because it is sound'. One aspect of the sign not being established on the subject, for example: 'The appearance of two moons is the subject, it is direct perception, because it is free from conceptualization and without error'. The subject having no difference, that is, the sign not being established in one aspect, for example: 'A tree is the subject, it is living, because it sleeps at night or its leaves shrink'. Not being established because there is no desire to know, for example: 'Eyes, etc., are the subject, they only act for the sake of others, because they are assembled'. Secondly, an example is applying the similarity of that characteristic to the example and appearing as a component of its proof. Classification: Examples are either valid examples and apparent examples, or similar examples and dissimilar examples. The definitions of the latter two are, in order: presenting a basis where subsequent pervasion is actually ascertained as an example, and presenting a basis where reverse pervasion is actually ascertained as an example. Classification: The first has two types: valid similar examples and apparent similar examples. The definitions are, in order: a basis where subsequent pervasion is actually ascertained becoming an example, and being free from three faults; and a basis where subsequent pervasion is actually ascertained being presented as an example, and possessing any of the three faults. Classification: The first has: examples that are initially established and examples that are later recalled, such as examples that prove meaning and examples that only prove terms. Real examples and similar examples, or partially similar examples, such as: 'Like destruction and result, and existence', and 'Like the reasoning of fire and wood'. Examples that clearly show the form and only represent a part, such as: 'Measurable meaningful measures do not exist', which is used as an example of self-contradiction and contradiction with treatises. Furthermore, there are examples famous in treatises, examples famous in the world, examples established by valid cognition, and examples established by the power of commitment, and so on. The second type, apparent examples, is divided into three types: faults of meaning, faults of intellect, and faults of sound. The first has three types: not having the object to be proven, not having the sign, and not having both, in order: 'Sound is permanent because it is not embodied, like action', 'Like atoms', 'Like a pot'. The second type, intellectual faults of doubting the dharma, the sign, and both, has three types, in order: 'Sage Kapila is passionate because he speaks', 'This person is subject to death', and 'He is not omniscient because he possesses passion, etc.', like 'a person on a highway' is used as an example for all three. Third, there is no subsequent concomitance --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
