Because it sees far away. **Explanation of Benefits** The third part has two points: first, the actual proof of the valid person; second, refuting the arguments against it. **Actual Proof of the Valid Person** The first point is: the great compassion of sentient beings who want to be free from suffering is the proof of the valid person, because it has a perfect cause. So, where does this cause come from? Compassion is not produced without a cause, nor is it produced from a dissimilar cause, but from the result of repeatedly familiarizing oneself with compassion. **Refuting the Arguments Against It** The second part has two points: first, refuting the lack of repeated familiarization; second, refuting that even if familiarized, there is no endless increase. **Refuting the Lack of Repeated Familiarization** The first point has two parts: **Argument** The argument is: the non-Buddhist does not establish repeated familiarization with compassion, because there is no continuity of birth and death. Why? Because when the body is destroyed, the stream of consciousness will be cut off. Because consciousness depends on the body, depending in three ways: as a result, as a quality, and so on. **Refuting the Argument, First Pointing Out the Essentials** The second part has two parts: pointing out the essentials and explaining in detail. The first point is: consciousness is not at fault for not establishing repeated familiarization because the body is your immediate cause. Because in this way, the body being your support has been refuted by valid cognition. **Explaining in Detail the Refutation of the Argument** The second part has four points: first, incidentally refuting the absence of previous and future lives; second, directly refuting the dependence of consciousness on the body; third, refuting in detail the erroneous arguments about this; fourth, pointing out the conclusion of refuting the absence of a future life. **Incidentally Refuting the Absence of Previous and Future Lives** The first point is: the breathing, senses, and consciousness of ordinary beings, when taking birth in a place of birth, are not born solely relying on the body, without depending on the previous moment of the same kind. If that were the case, then earth, stones, etc., would become beings with self-sustaining awareness, etc., which would be a very great fault. Because it is from constant elements that sentient beings are transformed. If it is said that consciousness, etc., has a cause of entering from a previous life, then how does it enter the next life? If it is said that consciousness, etc., has the ability to connect the same kind of future life, then what additional cause is needed? The consciousness at the time of death does not have the cause of producing the same kind of future life, so for what reason would it not connect the same kind of future life after death? Because it is unchanging. The consciousness of ordinary beings at the time of death, etc. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it is said that future similar aggregates are produced because the direct causes for their production are complete. If it is said that this is too extreme, because mind does not arise from earth etc., because there is no seed of mind. Then, according to your view, this reason is not established. The nature of knowable objects (all things), all earth etc. possess the seed of sentient beings (beings), because in any part of earth etc., there will not be a part of earth etc. that does not produce warmth, moisture, sprouts, etc., so all earth etc. will produce mind. If it is said that sentient beings can arise not relying on mind etc., but only from the four great elements of earth, water, fire, and wind, then all earth, stones, etc. will become living beings, because a part of earth etc. becomes a living being, and there is no difference from the four great elements. Second, refuting the view that mind relies on the body. If only the body is the cause of mind, then is it a rootless body or a rooted body? If it is the former, then the dead body will also have mind; if it is the latter, then the root (sense organ) is unstable. If it is said that mind (consciousness, thought) is not the direct result of the eye sense, because even if the eye sense is damaged, it will not cause damage to you. If it is said that you state them separately and apply them one by one, then the eye senses etc. of ordinary beings rely on mind, and when mind changes, you will also see changes. Because the root is not the direct cause of mind, but mind relies on the eye senses etc. The previous mind is the basis of the subsequent mind, and the nature of the previous mind is that only the four great elements are not your immediate cause, because it relies on its own immediate cause, namely the previous mind. Therefore, in the usual rebirth, the eye senses etc. arise from the previous mind, because the previous mind of karma is the cause of the eye senses etc. The roots etc. are the cause of growth. If it also exists at the time of death, then there will also be a cause for the growth of roots etc. after death. Therefore, the mind of a being with self-grasping at the time of death will be reborn again, because the causes for rebirth are complete. If mind does not arise relying on the body, then would the Buddha's statement that 'body and mind are interdependent' cause a contradiction? Mind does not rely on the body by arising directly from the body, but manifests through the consciousness of the body. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
