Therefore, the Bhagavan (Blessed One) is Dharma because he is distinct from outsiders, learners, and non-learners, Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Arhats, and because he successively knows the suchness, firmly knows, and completely knows. From this, it is proven that the path is cultivated. (3) From this, it is proven that the path is cultivated, that is, Dharma is the path cultivated for the purpose of benefiting others, because he has achieved three kinds of special wisdom. Therefore, the path cultivated in the stage of cause is called the teacher, because the teacher is the cause of having characteristics. From this, it is proven that the thought of benefiting others is achieved. Fourth, from this, it is proven that the thought of benefiting others is achieved, that is, the Sugata (One Gone to Bliss) is Dharma, because the compassion in the stage of cause precedes the path of directly seeing selflessness. These four prove the way of valid cognition. The Bhagavan is Dharma because he has compassion, and even if he has achieved three kinds of special wisdom for his own benefit, in order not to abandon the activity of teaching the profound and vast Dharma to others, fifth, from this, it is proven that he is valid cognition. Because he is a valid person for those seeking liberation, because he has attained compassion that is good and permanently beneficial for those seeking liberation, and three kinds of special wisdom that only speak the truth. These three kinds of special wisdom are Dharma because they are generated by the habit of directly seeing selflessness. Therefore, the Bhagavan is the protector, because the one who speaks the truth is also the ultimate person with direct realization. The necessity of praising as valid cognition. Second, the necessity of praising as valid cognition, that is, what is the necessity of praising the Bhagavan, who has many virtues, as valid cognition? It is said in the treatise on valid cognition that praising the Bhagavan with such things is Dharma because it shows that the teachings of the Bhagavan themselves are established as valid cognition, and not arbitrarily established. If direct perception has been taught, how is inference taught? The Bhagavan is Dharma because he accepts inference as valid cognition, because it is undeniable that inference is valid cognition, and it is also the nature of slightly arising. You can see in the scriptures various formulations that serve as the basis for inference, which belong to all things that are subject to cessation. If the formulation is taught, how does it become teaching inference? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Subject (Tibetan: བྱ་ཆོས་ཅན།, meaning: something that possesses a certain property). If the words of practice are correctly explained, then the basis of inference (anumāna) is being explained. Because for a subject, if a dharma (quality, phenomenon) does not exist, the valid reason (hetu) associated with it will not arise, and this valid reason is the basis of inference. If someone wonders how 'non-existence leads to non-arising' is explained, then, subject, the connection between the sign (linga) as the reason and the dharma to be established (sādhya) should also be clearly explained. Because the nature (svabhāva) of the reason, etc., is pervaded by the subject of the cessation of the dharma to be established, etc., this is because it is directly explained. This commentary on 'Establishment of Valid Cognition' is a work by the great scholar Kunga, in which some words have been slightly reduced and well explained. May this bring great benefit to the Dharma and many sentient beings! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
