Because of attachment (bdag chags). If it is said that attachment arises from seeing it as having qualities, then the reason is not established. Then, the attachment of the Vaisheshika school, as the subject of debate (chos can), does not arise solely from seeing it as having qualities, because it arises from seeing the qualities of 'self' (bdag). The liberated one of the Vaisheshika school, as the subject of debate (chos can), nothing can prevent the arising of attachment in his continuum, because the causes for the arising of attachment are complete, and the manifest cause is complete. Because he has manifest self-view (bdag lta). This is pervasion (khyab ste), because it is its direct result. Furthermore, what faults do you see in attachment? He says: 'If it has faults, because it becomes the basis of suffering, then it should be abandoned.' If this is said, then, his aspiring to liberation, with respect to attachment, is not without attachment, because he considers and holds attachment as 'mine' (bdag gir). Even according to your own view, this is uncertain, for example, just as you consider 'self' to be the basis of suffering, but it should not be abandoned. If it is said that attachment and the attachment of 'mine', and the 'self' with 'mine' are the cause of suffering, while the 'self' without these is not the cause of suffering, so attachment has faults, while 'self' does not have faults. Then, attachment should also be without faults, like 'self', because without 'self' suffering does not arise, and because of having 'self' suffering arises. If this view is accepted, then both attachment and 'self', for both of you, are without attachment, because they should not be abandoned, because neither of you has faults. All three agree. The second part is divided into two points: stating the view of abandoning through meditating on suffering; refuting the analogy and meaning of this view separately. The first point is: if merely by meditating on attachment etc. as suffering and the basis of suffering, one can abandon attachment to them, thereby abandoning them, like a limb seized by a poisonous snake. The second point is divided into: refuting the analogy; refuting the meaning. The first point is: the finger seized by a poisonous snake that is cut off and discarded, you do not abandon it by destroying the thought of 'mine', but you abandon it by destroying the thought of 'mine'. The second point is: his aspiring to liberation, what can prevent him from generating the thought of 'self' towards freedom (dbang) etc.? It will not prevent it, because he considers freedom etc. as the basis of enjoyment. If accepted, then, with respect to the 'mine' of freedom etc., what is without attachment? There is no attachment. This is pervasion (khyab ste), like the hair and limbs on the body.

Therefore, aversion arises towards impure things, while attachment does not arise towards hair, etc., that are not possessed by others, which is evident to everyone. Furthermore, your seeker of liberation (referring to the Vaisheshika or Samkhya schools), because of contemplating the senses, etc., as suffering, even if he recognizes this, he will not abandon attachment to them, i.e., he will not abandon them. Because the senses, etc., are still the direct cause of arising attachment to them, and the close relationship between the senses, etc., and the self still exists completely as before. This is a universal law, because the close relationship between the senses, etc., and the self leads to attachment to them, and this relationship is eternal. The Samkhya school would say that admitting that the close relationship between the senses, etc., and the self leads to attachment to them is true, but this would lead to not abandoning attachment to the senses, etc. However, by considering nature and the self as one, recognizing that attachment is different, liberation is attained. If the senses, etc., have no close relationship with the self, then attachment to the senses, etc., would not arise from the close relationship. Even so, ordinary common people do not generate attachment merely by considering the object of attachment and knowledge as one. Even if they do not consider them as one, they will generate attachment because food, clothing, etc., are beneficial to them. If the senses, etc., are the root of suffering, like a finger bitten by a poisonous snake, then attachment would not arise to the senses, etc. However, the senses, etc., are not entirely the root of suffering, because they sometimes also bring happiness. Most of the time, they bring suffering, like poisonous food. If it is said that Devadatta, who has obtained special non-poisonous food, even if he is said to have abandoned poisonous food that contradicts happiness, he may not abandon it, because he craves special happiness and has obtained special non-poisonous food. Therefore, by craving other special happiness, it is possible to completely abandon slightly happy poisonous food. If non-poisonous food cannot be found, and not eating poisonous food would lead to immediate starvation and death, and the foolish person Devadatta, who is attached to life, would obtain poisonous food in the same way. Anyone like that would be attached to the self. For example, just as seeing a man who cannot find a woman engaging in sexual acts with a female animal. If there is no basis for attachment at the time of liberation, then the liberated one...
