Because the power of previous actions is exhausted, it does not connect to another existence. Bodhisattvas who possess pure lands, those whose actions create flawless aggregates, even if they remain in samsara due to the exhaustion of karmic power, are not beings of samsara, because even if they remain, there is no fault or sin. If compassion without attachment exists, why does it not remain at the end of samsara? Shravaka Arhats do not have great effort to remain in samsara for the benefit of sentient beings, because there is no karmic power to remain, and also because it is only the medicine of compassion. Buddhas, for the sake of other sentient beings, remain in samsara as long as it exists, because they possess perfect great love. Third: If the view of the perishable is the cause of samsara, then Stream-enterers, Once-returners, and Non-returners, on the first path, the path of seeing, do not have craving, because there they are free from the view of the collection of perishables. If so, then Stream-enterers with dull faculties have not abandoned all views of the perishable, because they have not abandoned the co-emergent view of self. If that is abandoned, then how could there be rebirth in samsara for that reason? There is not, because the reason for not abandoning it is that they have not abandoned the co-emergent view of self for sentient beings, because they have the thought of 'I', wishing themselves to be happy and not to suffer. Fourth: If they have abandoned the co-emergent, then they are not attached to self, because they do not see 'I'. This is pervasive, because without that, no one is attached to self. If you accept that, then they do not manifestly run to existence through desiring their own happiness, because they also do not have craving for self. Fourth: Is there a self of bondage and liberation, because there was previous bondage and later liberation? The self does not bind in samsara, because it is permanent. Nor does it produce its own result, suffering, because it is permanent. If the former is pervasive, then if it binds in samsara, it must be the cause of producing its own result, suffering. Also, the self does not liberate from samsara, because it does not produce suffering, because it is not the cause of averting suffering, because it is permanent. If it is pervasive, then if it liberates, it must be the cause of averting suffering. The Sthavira and Sautrantika schools say: There is no bondage and liberation for the permanent, because permanent and impermanent... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The self, which is also unspeakable, Exists at the edge of bondage. If asked: Is it momentary or not? If it is the former, then it is contradictory to say that the unspeakable is impermanent. If it is the latter, then that self, as a phenomenon, should not be the cause of any result, because it is unspeakable as impermanent. If you accept this, then the phenomenon, bound and causing suffering, liberated and causing happiness, should not exist in any way, because it is unspeakable as the cause of any result, because it is not constant. If you say there is no fault, then the phenomenon should be constant, because its nature remains indestructible. It is pervasive: Whatever has an indestructible nature, the wise call it constant. Therefore, abandon this shameful view and say that the self is constant. The Path of Truth (Sanskrit: Ārya-satya, Aryasatya, Noble Truth) The fourth Path of Truth has three aspects: showing the realization of selflessness as the path, refuting the clinging to self, and refuting the path of liberation by abandoning the karmic body. Showing the Realization of Selflessness as the Path The first has two aspects: the actual meaning and refuting disputes. The Actual Meaning The first is: The path that has been explained, After practice. The path of directly seeing selflessness, which was explained earlier during the demonstration, is the Path of Truth, because it is the undefiled mind consciousness of a learner who has perfected practice and obtained the ultimate transformation of the basis. Refuting Disputes The second has three aspects: refuting the abandonment by overcoming with antidotes, refuting the mutual destruction of attachment and anger, and abandoning non-antidotes such as love towards sentient beings. Refuting Abandonment by Overcoming with Antidotes The first is: If the mind stream transforms, but afflictions such as attachment still arise again, just as a flawless path arises in a mind with faults. If asked: Then a person who has completed the transformation should not have attachment, etc., arise in their mind stream, because they have no ability to arise. Therefore, in the system of those who speak of meaning, the object-taker is the nature of consciousness, because it is its nature, and the subject should also understand how that object exists, so understanding how one's own object of grasping exists is the nature of the five sense consciousnesses, because its grasping aspect is in accordance with the meaning. Forms, etc., also, like their own nature as they truly exist, cause the arising of their own grasping consciousness, that is your nature, because your grasping object is not deceptive. Therefore, understanding how the object exists is the nature of the subject, because its grasping --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
