If the sounds of numbers etc. are not constantly fixed, and if it is not because they have not become true names, then what is the definition of true names and imputed names? If it is said that things each have different characteristics, and the names that possess these characteristics are true names, while those that do not have these characteristics are imputed names, then, can the nature of knowable things (all things) be called the definition of true names or imputed names, which are names of things that have or do not have different characteristics? This is unreasonable, because the names that are initially conventionally agreed upon, if they can clearly indicate a certain thing and are not confused with other things, then this sound is a true name; and the names that are already widely known, and are later used to refer to other things, then this name is an imputed name. The sounds of numbers etc. do not have their own independent characteristics, because they are categories and do not have their own independent referents. If it is said that the sounds of things that have characteristics such as white, and things that have numbers etc., are also categories, because they do not have other referents. If you think so, then these things are not categories. If it is said that the characteristics themselves also have other characteristics, then, the nature of knowable things (all things), the characteristics and the things themselves will become inseparable. In addition, the sounds of numbers etc., even if they do not have other referents, are still independent, because the aspects they refer to are different. For example, the sound of 'non-action, non-thing'. The numbers etc. of a vase are different things from the vase itself, because the possessive case is used in the phrase 'the number of the vase'. When describing things, the phrase 'the number of the vase', what is the meaning of saying that the number of the vase etc. that you are talking about is different from the vase itself that has these numbers? This is meaningful, because the number of the vase can be used to distinguish the other characteristics of the vase, such as hardness etc. Therefore, the phrase 'the number of the vase', even if the vase and the number of the vase are not different in nature, is meaningful, because when people want to understand a certain aspect of the vase, they will exclude the other aspects of the vase, such as hardness etc., and only focus on the number of the vase, just like an independent characteristic of the vase. For example, just like saying 'having fingers'. The phrase 'having fingers', its meaning is that it only shows the combination of fingers, and does not exclude all the characteristics of the fingers. Therefore, the phrase 'having fingers' and the phrase 'becoming having fingers' have the same referent. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Similarly, if it is merely an indication, like the bending of a finger, then it is shown gradually by way of excluding or not excluding other characteristics. Therefore, the object of discussion, even if its self-nature and characteristics are not different, is meaningful. This is because, for the same essence of a thing, different expressions of excluding or not excluding other characteristics are used, so there are different understandings. If the parts are not entities, but merely collections of smells, etc., then it will not become 'the shape of the vase,' etc., because it will not become 'the shape of the shape,' 'the vase of the vase.' If someone asks: 'The word 'vase,' as an object of discussion, is not used merely because there is a part of the vase that is not understood from concepts such as 'the shape of the vase,' is that not unreasonable?' Because excluding or not excluding the respective characteristics of the shape, smell, etc., of the vase as the referent, the similarities of those concepts such as 'the shape of the vase,' i.e., the common result, are not the cause like drawing water, which is wise. Because it is combined only for the purpose of understanding the ability to draw water. When combining words, as an object of discussion, 'the vase is a shape' or 'the shape is a vase,' such words with the same basis cannot be consistent in meaning, because the word 'vase' has not excluded 'the shape of the vase' as the referent. And so on, by excluding the collection, the word 'vase,' as an object of discussion, does not exclude the kinds of vases such as 'golden vase' as the referent, and excludes the collection such as 'the shape of the vase' as the referent, this difference exists. Because relative to the kinds such as 'golden vase,' it is an expression of kind; relative to the collection such as 'the shape of the vase,' it is an expression of collection. If there are no parts, then the saying 'the shape of the vase' is meaningless, if someone asks: The word 'the shape of the vase,' as an object of discussion, is meaningful even without parts. This is because it is taken as a general part, that is, the vase is specifically designated, and its characteristic of ability is distinguished from the shape of cloths, etc., which are the objects of the eye consciousness that holds the shape of the vase, and shown. In the way just described, the word 'the scent of sandalwood,' as an object of discussion, is meaningful even without an entity possessing three attributes, because the scent of sandalwood can be distinguished from the scent of camphor and shown. This should be explained similarly for other similar examples. If someone asks: 'Are many parts the proximate cause of consciousness?' Then, are all parts a collection, or is each part independent? If all parts are the cause of the collection, then consciousness, as an object of discussion, should not arise if one part is missing. If each part can produce, then you should not produce many at once in one continuum. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
