In this world, one will obtain the gods of the heavens, the support of humans, and all the perfect bliss thereof. The fault of transgressing the Guru's words, as stated in the Vajra Tent Tantra: 'At that time, the disciple who has received the supreme empowerment, if he transgresses the Guru's words, will suffer in this world and go to hell in the next.' Regarding how to obtain accomplishments from the Guru, the Tent Tantra states: 'The teacher is the guide of beings, praised by all the Buddhas, like a father and mother to us, thus should one remember.' Why is this so? The Tathagatas have said: 'The accomplishment of Vajrasattva (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་སེམས་,Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्रसत्त्व,Sanskrit Romanization: vajrasattva, Literal meaning: Diamond Being), Buddha, Vajradharma (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་ཆོས་,Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्रधर्म,Sanskrit Romanization: vajradharma, Literal meaning: Diamond Dharma), splendor, and the King of Horses (Tibetan: རྟ་ཡི་རྒྱལ་པོ,Sanskrit Devanagari: हयग्रीव,Sanskrit Romanization: hayagrīva, Literal meaning: Horse Neck), is not difficult. Eye medicine and swift feet, sword and earth-diving, pills and flying, invisibility and taking essence.' 'Therefore, by pleasing the Vajradhara (Tibetan: རྡོ་རྗེ་ཅན,Sanskrit Devanagari: वज्रधर,Sanskrit Romanization: vajradhara, Literal meaning: Diamond Holder) with these, one quickly obtains them.' Therefore, one should go before the Guru and prostrate to the Tathagatas. Third, pleasing the Guru by discerning what should and should not be done, thereby taking and abandoning, actually has three aspects: pleasing the Guru by perceiving the Guru's retinue and possessions as lacking; pleasing the Guru through conduct; and pleasing the Guru by acting according to the instructions. The first aspect: 'The Guru's belongings are like life, his retinue is like the Guru, his retinue is like relatives, always think of them equally.' As it is said, because there is nothing more precious than life to oneself, one should cherish the Guru's belongings as one's own life, and not disregard them because they are not one's own. Not only should one respect the Guru himself, but also his retinue, such as children and consorts. For those who are close to the Guru, one should cherish them with great affection, like one's own beloved relatives, and always think of them with one's whole heart, not just once. Second, pleasing the Guru through conduct is divided into two aspects: a general explanation of pleasing the Guru through conduct; and a detailed explanation of serving and respecting through the three doors of body, speech, and mind. The first aspect is further divided into four points. The first point: 'Bedding, cushions, and leading the way, having hair knots and such, placing feet on the cushion and the waist, placing hands on them should not be done.'

Furthermore, one should not lie down or sit idly. One should be skilled in attending to all the affairs of the guru and accomplish them perfectly. One should not discard spittle or other impurities in front of the guru, nor should one stretch out one's legs on the seat, nor should one pace back and forth or argue. This means that one should not engage in these inappropriate behaviors in front of the venerable guru, but should avoid them. What should not be done? These actions, from arguing to speaking from the bedding. The seat mentioned here refers not only to ordinary seats, but also to high bedding. One should not walk in front of the guru, nor should one tie up one's hair or wear a hat. If the guru is sitting on the ground, one should not sit on the seat first. One should not put one's hands on one's hips, with elbows outstretched, rubbing one's waist. When the guru stands up, one should not lie down or sit; when the guru is sitting, one should not lie down. One should always be skilled in attending to all the affairs of the guru and accomplish them perfectly according to the guru's wishes. One should not spit, blow one's nose, or discard saliva, nor should one stretch out one's legs on the seat, nor should one pace back and forth, nor should one argue with others in front of the guru. Secondly, one should not rub one's limbs, dance, sing, or play music. One should not engage in excessive talk near the guru. This means that one should not rub one's limbs such as hands, nor should one sing without a specific reason during gatherings, nor should one suddenly play music, nor should one engage in excessive talk about topics such as war, business, or agriculture near the guru. These contents are also explained in the 'Vajra Heart Ornament Sutra': 'One should not beat drums or speak harsh words where they can be heard.' 'One should not walk in front or stretch out one's legs; these should not be done.' 'One should not tie up one's hair or wave weapons in front of the guru.' Thirdly, one should bow and rise from the seat, and sit respectfully. In the night, on dangerous roads, or after obtaining permission, one may walk in front of the guru. This means that when the guru rises, one should also bow and rise; similarly, when sitting in front of the guru, one should not sit casually, but should sit respectfully. It was said earlier that one should not walk in front of the guru, but there are exceptions: in the darkness of night, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
