Because these two arise in dependence on each other. Arising from no cause is never reasonable, or because it does not depend on a cause. This would lead to always arising, or to there being no cause of arising at all. At no time would a result arise, because without a cause it does not depend on others. This would lead to always existing or not existing. As it is said. Furthermore, these things are sometimes seen to arise manifestly, which also contradicts arising from no cause, because results arise from the collection of causes, and results do not arise from the non-collection of causes, which is evident. Arising from no cause is also contradicted by worldly convention, because it is universally accepted that all things arise from their respective causes. Third, establishing pervasion: If it does not arise from any of the four extremes, then it is necessarily without inherent existence, because if a thing arises, it is necessarily arises from any of the four extremes. The reason for this is that any thing is encompassed by both self and other, because there is no thing that is neither self nor other. Fourth, stating the proof: Self and other, both, and without cause, if it does not arise from the four extremes, then it is necessarily without inherent existence, like the hairs of a turtle. These internal and external things also do not arise from the four extremes, therefore, they are without inherent existence. By stating the proof, the three modes are cast into memory. That is, when the sign of not arising from the four extremes is established, although the meaning of without inherent existence has already been established in the mind of the opponent, by stating the proof, the three modes are cast into memory, and for things that do not arise from the four extremes, the statement of without inherent existence is established. Establishing reasoning as proving the selflessness of phenomena. Why are these two main arguments established there, and why are other arguments such as dependent origination and the four alternatives of arising and ceasing not established there? This is because, although the arguments of dependent origination and dependent establishment can negate the imputed phenomena, the other-powered characteristic of the produced and the producer

The reasoning that analyzes the nature of things is not powerful. The reason for this is, for example, if it is stated that "a sprout is not self-established, because it depends on a seed," although this slightly harms the self-establishment of the sprout, if all the cause and effect relationships of things are analyzed, it is not powerful. Therefore, since the establishment of cause and the establishment of effect necessarily depend on each other, even if this reasoning can negate it, the nature that depends on nature, these two cannot ultimately be determined as unreal. For example, establishing a lion on the cheek depends on the purity of food, but the lion's cheek does not depend on the thing of food purity, because the other existed before it was absent. Therefore, some people think that the reasoning of dependent origination is the argument that eliminates both extremes of existence and non-existence. They say, "These internal and external things are the subject, not self-established, because they are dependent origination," thus eliminating the extreme of existence. Also, these internal and external things are the subject, not completely non-existent. Regarding this, the venerable Nagarjuna said in the homage of the Root Verses of the Middle Way, "That which arises from dependent origination, is neither ceasing nor arising, neither discontinuous nor permanent, neither coming nor going, neither different nor the same, pacifies all elaborations, to the Buddha I prostrate." Therefore, there are four kinds of fundamental arguments. These internal and external things are the subject, ultimately they will not perish, and there will be no existence in between, because there was no birth in the beginning. Furthermore, these internal and external things are the subject, not established as different, because there is no oneness. Furthermore, these internal and external things are the subject, they will not come, because there is no going. Furthermore, these internal and external things are the subject, they will not be cut off, because they are not permanent. These four statements are the supreme fundamental arguments, because the infinite categories of arguments in the Middle Way school are only followers of these four arguments. Third, explaining the categories of meanings related to both selflessnesses, including explaining how the two selflessnesses are one and different, and explaining the necessity of teaching the two selflessnesses.
