If so, truthfulness will be lost, because one and many are mutually contradictory. Third, there are two types of refutation: refutation based on time and refutation based on action and agent. The first is what the noble Nāgārjuna, i.e., the protector Nāgārjuna, said. Among them, "nāga" is dragon, and "arjuna" is accomplishing benefit, so the literal meaning is dragon accomplishing benefit, however, the intermediate words are implicitly omitted, so it is called Nāgārjuna. What he said, in the Ratnāvalī, is: that is, according to the proponents of mere appearance of mind-only, the various appearances of external objects are also due to the influence of habit, therefore, they are not truly established, and the consciousnesses related to them are not related to the continuity of years and months, etc., therefore, a partless moment of the present is truly established. So they say. The refutation of that is: consciousness, even the moment at the end of time, is not partless, that is, the moment at the end, and similarly the initial part, and the middle part between the two, become three parts that must be examined. Thus, for the initial moment, there are also three distinctions of its initial part, middle, and final, and similarly, the middle and final are also distinguished, so it becomes nine parts, and for those also divided into three each, it becomes twenty-seven parts, etc., it will become infinitely many parts. Thus, it is impossible for all these worlds to exist in a single moment in an extremely small time, because as shown above, the initial, middle, and final are divided into three moments for examination, so it is established as having parts. Those consciousnesses that have become the initial, middle, and final parts are not produced, because they are not produced from self, other, or both. To clearly show with direct perception reasoning that a single moment at the end of time has multiple parts, for example, the sun's wheel traveling around the four continents with the speed of wind is very fast, even in the duration of a single moment at the end of time, there is usually a yojana of travel, for example, if we assume that it runs around the edge of a large mountain in that time, then that mountain has countless dust particles.

Ah, the combination of those must proceed in a way that suppresses the position of each atom of the solar mandala. The number of atoms is contradictory, because there is no consciousness without an object. At the moment of encounter, the object is not recognized, and after the encounter, the object is recognized. Therefore, when consciousness encounters the object, the consciousness that recognizes the object does not arise, and when recognizing the object, the consciousness at the time of encountering the object has ceased, so it becomes partitive. To this, if it is thought that consciousness enters into identity with the object, so it will not become partitive, then, to this also, there are two situations: one part that enters into identity with the object, and the state of having already entered. Therefore, it becomes partitive. If there is no state of having already entered, then entering into identity with the object is contradictory. The above is the reasoning that prevents aspects, and aspects are consciousness, because there is no consciousness that does not include the two aspects of apprehended and apprehender. The first two reasonings here are the reasoning that prevents the Mind-Only school from thinking that aspects are true, and it is also the reasoning that prevents some specific consciousnesses from being true, while the latter two reasonings are the general reasoning that applies to all those who think that consciousness is truly established. Third, in explaining the reasoning that commonly refutes both object and aspect, the main reason for establishing selflessness is: refuting the identity or difference of the entity and refuting the four extremes of arising and ceasing, considering these as two main reasons. The four extremes of arising and ceasing and the reasoning of dependent origination are merely terms, as will be explained below, and are not the main reason for establishing selflessness. Therefore, it is unreasonable in meaning to say that the main reason for the Middle Way is four types. The first of these, the reasoning of one or many, has four points: establishing the proposition, establishing the property of the subject, establishing the pervasion, and establishing the proof statement, thereby bringing the three modes into thought. The first point is: for the outsider, that is, for the heretic who clings to the appearance of phenomena as truly established, the opponent should first establish the argument as follows: these internal and external things are the subject, their own entity is established.
