The so-called past and future things do not exist as substances. If the past thing exists in that way, then it has already been produced, and it would be unreasonable for it to be produced again. It would also be unreasonable for the past thing to perish again after it has already perished. If the future thing exists, then it should be that its own cause has already preceded it, which is unreasonable. Because any thing that has not had its own cause precede it will not arise. Furthermore, if the future exists in things, then later in the future time, it will produce results again. Even in the present, because the future thing exists, it will produce results. Furthermore, if the past exists as the cause, then even from a seed that has been burned by fire, a sprout would grow, which is unreasonable. Because that is a past seed, and the cause exists as a thing. If the future fruit exists as a thing, then it would appear now and arise now, but that is not the case, but rather it arises from the future and is born from the future. Furthermore, if the future fruit exists as a thing, then it should be visible, but because it is not an object that can be observed by valid cognition, it is proven to be non-existent. Furthermore, if the past form exists as a thing in the present time, then does it exist as a form or as a non-form thing? If it exists as a form, then it must exist in the object seen by the eye consciousness, but in fact it has been determined that the past form cannot be seen. If the past form exists in another non-form thing, then it cannot be an object of knowledge. Second, summarizing the main points: Because of these reasons, generalities, coarse things, and permanent things, as well as the relationship between name and meaning, and the two times of past and future, do not exist as substances, but are merely conceptual designations. Second, refuting the pervasiveness is divided into: refuting the meaning, refuting the aspects, and jointly refuting the two. First, in the first part, it is divided into: relying on establishing appearance as mind to negate external objects, and explaining the reasoning for negating external objects. First, all these dharmas included in appearance and existence are merely appearances of one's own mind, and do not exist independently of the mind.

There is not even a little bit, because whenever it is, it is the nature of the mind that manifests clearly. For example, it is the same as dreams and illusions, etc. That is to say, whatever is mind, will manifest clearly, and whatever is not mind, will not manifest clearly. Even in worldly terms, the appearances of form, sound, smell, taste, touch, etc., will appear clearly in the mind of a person, but on earth, stones, etc., these will not appear clearly. Furthermore, these phenomena of appearance and sound are merely appearances of the mind. because of. That is, the appearances of form, sound, smell, taste, touch, etc., are only apprehended together with intelligence, eye consciousness, etc., and it is absolutely impossible for them to be only appearances of objects. That is, it may be so in relation to one person, for example, an object like a mountain is not always apprehended only together with intelligence. For example, when the eye consciousness of a being like a human does not see that object, it is not together with intelligence, because no intelligence apprehends it. If one thinks: For it, other beings will have the consciousness of the eye arise depending on it. Then, whatever the form is, different other beings will constantly apprehend it together with eye consciousness. Here, the statement that all appearances are mind and intellect is not just the mind divided by the three: mind, intellect, and consciousness, but the general consciousness is called mind. Furthermore, the reasoning for establishing appearance as mind, as stated by the noble Asanga in the Compendium of the Great Vehicle, is: For example, the ocean appears as pus and blood to different kinds of hell beings, etc. Even though the basis of appearance is the same, due to the different intentions of the appearers, not only will various different things appear, but also their respective functions will appear, therefore, it is considered that external objects are not established. Furthermore, if external objects are established in meaning and the reality of things, then, for yogis, when recollecting the distinctions of samadhi, it is impossible for non-conceptual wisdom to arise in which the appearances of external objects gradually and completely cease.
