If it is the cause of doing something like that, then the self of the person will become impermanent, and since what has already perished is not real, it is contradictory to do things. According to the third case, if destruction and existence are two, then the third aspect cannot be used for actions such as viewing, because the faults of both will be involved. The third aggregate that is not two is also not possible, because there is no such thing. The fifth point, saying that it contradicts the scriptures, is that those who believe that the self of the person is substantial, also say in the sutras: "Monks, there are people who carry burdens, and there are also people who abandon burdens." And it is also said that there are eight kinds of people. Therefore, it is unreasonable to say that the self of the person is substantial, because in the fifth chapter derived from the same scripture, it also speaks of five kinds of faults of clinging to self. Therefore, it is clear that the intention of these sutras is not to show that the self is substantial. Their intention is to distinguish between the state of complete defilement and the state of complete purification, and the difference between newly entering into cause and effect, and the continuity of abiding in entry. It is explained by assuming a person in the state of the five aggregates, in a way that is easy to express. That is, assuming a person in the state of the continuum of aggregates that acts on the two truths of suffering and origin, that is the state of complete defilement. And the person assumed in the continuum of the five aggregates that abides in the two truths of cessation and path is the state of complete purification. To examine these two states separately, using the name of a person to indicate them is intended to be easy to express and easy to understand. For example, it is necessary to say that the noble Shariputra taught the Dharma, but in reality, it is his form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, that is, the five aggregates, and the form aggregate included within, and the many aggregates such as eyes, ears, nose, and tongue that teach the Dharma. But if it is necessary to say that such a thing teaches, it becomes difficult to express and unsightly. Therefore, in such a state, assuming the name of a person called Shariputra, and then saying that he teaches the Dharma, it is easy to express.

Please contemplate these. Furthermore, if someone asserts that the self of a person exists and is truly established, then there will also be two faults: all sentient beings will effortlessly attain liberation, or it will be impossible to attain liberation. The first case is that if the self of a person exists and is established as such in reality, then all sentient beings are merely very familiar with clinging to the self of a person, therefore, touching that reality must effortlessly attain liberation. The second case is that sentient beings cling to the self of a person, and it is truly established, then it is impossible to abandon clinging to it, therefore, it will be impossible for sentient beings to attain liberation. In Maitreya Bodhisattva's treatise "Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes," thirteen ways of clinging to the self are taught: clinging to the self of a person as being singular, regarding it as the cause of producing other things, regarding it as the profound enjoyer of objects, regarding it as the agent, regarding it as the controller of objects, regarding it as the meaning of the owner, regarding it as permanent, regarding it as the place of all afflictions and purification, that is, as the basis, regarding it as a yogi, regarding it as liberated and not liberated. These ten are all clinging to the self of a person. To counteract these, ten kinds of wisdom are taught. That is, the antidote to the first is being skilled in the aggregates, because it has the nature of being many and diverse, therefore it becomes the antidote to clinging to one. Being skilled in the elements is the antidote to the second, because element means cause, so being skilled in the eighteen elements is the antidote to clinging to the self as the cause. Being skilled in the sources is the antidote to the third, because there is no self that enjoys objects, but through the dependent arising of the twelve sources, one can approach enjoying objects. Being skilled in dependent arising is the antidote to the fourth, because it is not done by the self, but arises merely from the appearance of causes and conditions of dependent arising. Being skilled in what is and is not the place is the antidote to the fifth, because this thing
