It is because the nature of the self of person and the self of phenomena are different. That is, the self is considered to be permanent, one, and independent, while the five aggregates are impermanent, numerous, and dependent on others. There cannot be anything other than these two, and if there were, it would not be observed, because it should be perceptible. Therefore, although the self of person that is clung to does not actually exist, clinging to its existence is the arising of error. Therefore, obtaining liberation by completely realizing the absence of self of person is also established as merely the cessation of that error, and not by a person who is real and truly established, relying on the practice of a path that is real and truly established, thereby abandoning a self of person that is real and truly established, and obtaining liberation. Therefore, saying "merely an error" means that the self of person is a deceptive and inverted appearance, and merely its cessation is called liberation. Therefore, in this treatise as well, it should be amended as follows: Therefore, merely the cessation of error is liberation. This would be easier to understand. Furthermore, ordinary beings do not rely on a mixture of delusion and non-delusion, but rely solely on delusion. Therefore, it is said that childish ordinary beings are beings who rely solely on delusion. And their five aggregates of appropriation are a continuous stream of suffering, because it is a field of suffering, and whatever it encounters, it turns into pure suffering. Moreover, it has arisen continuously from beginningless samsara without ever ceasing. Therefore, regarding the continuum of the five aggregates, it is said that the nature of suffering is continuous, and there is no I or mine other than that. How is it that ordinary beings who rely solely on delusion do not realize the continuum of the aggregates, which are of the nature of suffering, as merely a continuum? If you think so, it is because there are two reasons why children do not realize the absence of self of person: one is that there is no seed of the cause that would enable them to realize it, and the other is due to the power of familiarizing themselves with inverted minds, which obscures their realization of it. The first is that they have never directly realized the meaning of the absence of self of person, or even if that is not the case, they have not generated a definite understanding of selflessness in the form of a clear appearance.

If (in the past) one has already become accustomed, by the power of that habit, one will realize the selflessness of persons. But for each different child, there are no such causes. Second, from beginningless samsara, the conceptualization of grasping at the self of persons has become habitual, possessing a powerful and extremely stable habit. Because these two causes exist, one cannot explain it with the selflessness of persons. Even so, the various different children only regard the aggregates of formation as suffering. Moreover, they only regard the suffering of suffering and the suffering of change as suffering, but not the suffering of formation. The five aggregates continuum of children will generate various kinds of suffering. If in a previous life, the five aggregates continuum committed evil deeds, then its result will be to experience suffering in a later stage, and so on. However, apart from those aggregates continuum, there is no inherently existent agent and sufferer. For example, a river's continuum mixes with white, and the water becomes white; mixes with red, and it becomes red. But in these white and red, apart from the river's continuum, there is no other thing that makes it white and red. Therefore, temporarily, without investigation and analysis, the continuum of these five aggregates is called the "nature of dharma," and it is considered to exist. The reason why it is called the "nature of dharma" is because the word "dharma" has ten meanings, but here, it is explained according to the meaning of things having the word "dharma." Only this continuum of the five aggregates exists, and apart from that, there is no I, self, etc. The above is how the selflessness of persons is revealed in this way. When observing and analyzing, dharma, that is, the nature of the five aggregates, also does not exist. This also reveals the selflessness of phenomena. Incidentally, the refutation of the self of the agent is: relying on various kinds of causes and conditions, these internal and external things will arise, and it is obvious to see the continuum proceeding in sequence.
