The Dharma is the same. The inverted mind that clings to these two extremes is said to be like that. Therefore, whatever exists by its own nature, since it is not non-existent, is permanent. To say that it existed in the past but does not exist now is called nihilistic view. It is said as such. Thus, for those who gradually enter into the selflessness of the person, after the three of impermanence, suffering, and emptiness have preceded, one then enters into it. The reason for this is that for those who establish selflessness merely through hearing and thinking, if they have not generated a special ascertainment of these three, then it is difficult to generate a final, completely certain, and non-inverted ascertainment of the meaning of selflessness. Although it is not absolutely necessary for the three of impermanence, etc., to precede when a yogi meditates on the meaning of selflessness, later, at the time of direct realization, it is necessary to realize impermanence, suffering, and emptiness in the stage of practice. Therefore, since all compounded phenomena, including internal and external objects and non-objects, never have the opportunity to be permanent, it is established that they are impermanent. And this impermanence is not merely gross impermanence, which is complete change, but subtle impermanence, which is characterized by arising and ceasing simultaneously, without the freedom to remain even for an instant. When it is established in this way, it is also realized as suffering, because there is no freedom to remain and it must perish moment by moment. This is subtle suffering, the suffering of conditioned existence. Conditioned things are characterized by suffering from the moment they arise, Proving that all internal conditioned things are contrary to permanence, and proving that all external conditioned things are contrary to permanence, these are the three. The first point is: In general, all conditioned dharmas do not remain permanent for even a moment, and the mere expression of existing for a moment is a pure way of abiding, and in reality, they do not exist even for a moment, because they are free from all elaboration. Thus, in the state of equipoise of Hearers and Solitary Realizers, all conditioned dharmas exist only for a moment, Such an establishment is not often spoken of, but rather that after a moment...

In particular, the main purpose is to elaborate on the various points of reasoning for non-abiding. The main point of the text is: if all conditioned dharmas did not arise and cease moment by moment, then the principle of a result arising from a cause would not work. Because they arise in this way, all conditioned things are proven to be momentary. That is, from the cause, the seed, the result, the sprout, arises, and the moments of the seed gradually cease, and the moments of the sprout gradually arise. To this, the former party says: it is not contradictory for a result to arise from a cause, but it is not that they arise and cease moment by moment, because one thing arises and lasts for a long time. To this, the various dharmas of conditioned things, because the result of the later moment arises from the cause of the earlier moment, it is also proven to be momentary impermanence. Furthermore, there is never any conditioned thing that lasts longer than a moment. If one admits that it stays like that, it contradicts the three: scripture, attention, and reasoning. The scripture is that the Blessed One said: Monks, all conditioned things are impermanent, unstable, do not last long, and are momentary. If a thing arises and can last for more than two moments, then it will become long-lasting, not momentary, but permanent. Contradicting attention is that, as mentioned above, in the equipoise of the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and in the subsequent attainment of the Bodhisattva Saints, it is directly known that conditioned things do not last longer than a moment. Contradicting reasoning is, if a conditioned thing arises and lasts for a long time, does it stay without a cause, or is it made to stay by a cause? If it is the former, then it will either become permanently abiding, or it will not abide at all, because without a cause it does not depend on anything. If it is the latter, thinking that that dharma stays by that cause, and then is destroyed by another cause of destruction, that is not the case either, because it is destroyed as soon as it arises, and the cause of destruction never changes. Furthermore, all conditioned things arise and cease moment by moment, like a pot being destroyed.
