(Twenty-two) were spoken. In short, although all causes are included in the efficient cause, the efficient cause that produces the result through the effort of the individual is mentioned separately from before, and the result produced by that cause is called the result produced by the individual. Second, the explanation of the four conditions: The main factor of the causal condition of all external and internal objects is the Alaya consciousness itself, which is the seed part of the Alaya. As categories of causal conditions, there are co-emergent cause, equal share, association, pervasive, and ripening cause. These five causes are also accepted. Among these five causes, there are those that are causal conditions, so it is established there, but it is not certain that all five causes will become causal conditions. The immediately preceding condition is definitely the Alaya consciousness of the Great Vehicle in this case, which is reasonable, that is, it is identified in the ripening part of the Alaya. The remaining five causes, such as co-emergent, are cooperative conditions, and the objective condition is the object seen and the object aimed at, that is, the five non-conceptual sense consciousnesses directly see their respective objective conditions, such as the appearance of form, etc., so it is established as the object seen by that consciousness. And the conceptual consciousnesses only grasp the support of the object aimed at in the form of appearance or attachment. The condition called the dominant condition is the support of that object, and for example, the Alaya consciousness is the dominant condition of all objects, and for the five sense consciousnesses, their respective uncommon dominant conditions are the five senses. For things that appear as external objects other than consciousness, the common dominant condition is the Alaya consciousness, and the uncommon dominant condition is the support and place of each thing, and the basis, just as the support of water in a container that does not move and remains still is the container. In the Abhidharma Samuccaya, it is also said that there are four classifications of the dominant condition, namely, the dominant condition as the support, the dominant condition as the place, and the dominant condition as the projection.

and becoming the conditions for growth, etc., are the four spoken of. The objective condition and the dominant condition are also included within the efficient cause. Regarding the immediately preceding condition, there also arose three different viewpoints. The first, the Vaibhashikas, consider it to be identical to the thing itself, of the same continuum, and immediately past, possessing three characteristics. Regarding the manner of similarity, there are also various viewpoints such as being similar only in consciousness, and considering the element and earth to be the same. However, the self-view considers that any kind of internal and external things need to be similar, but it is not necessary for the element and earth to be the same. For example, the preceding and subsequent moments of eye consciousness are similar in perception, both being eye consciousness. This is also encompassed by a single continuum, for example, it is impossible for the preceding moment of eye consciousness of Deva to give rise to the subsequent moment of eye consciousness of Yajna. Therefore, similar types of consciousness are encompassed by the continuum of a single individual, and are also a single continuum. The eye consciousness is not after a long time has passed, but after the first moment has just passed, it is considered to be the immediately preceding condition of the second moment of eye consciousness. In more detail, the mere fact of just having passed is non-substantial, so it cannot be a condition for producing things, but the perception of the first moment that possesses the characteristic of just having passed is considered to be the immediately preceding condition of the second moment. If it is thought that the production of all things necessarily requires four conditions, that is not necessarily the case. On the basis of the causal condition and the dominant condition, adding the immediately preceding condition and the objective condition, the production that possesses all four is complete for the production of internal grasping dharmas, such as consciousness. Apart from that, the production of external apprehended parts arises from the two conditions of the dominant condition and the concurrent condition. It must be clear here that because the apprehended parts cannot focus on the object, there is no objective condition, but there is an immediately preceding condition, that is, the immediately past preceding moment of the same type, which can be established as the immediately preceding condition of the second moment. Another view on the immediately preceding condition is that it does not hinder the production of anything, but rather opens the way and benefits the result.
