The cause of that is: the main mind and, the attendant mental factors, the cause of arising is the same, the object of focus is the same, the cause of the object is the same, and the manner of grasping is the same or similar, therefore it is called the corresponding cause. Although the manner of grasping is the same, the two are not exactly the same. For example, the manner in which eye consciousness grasps the appearance of blue, and the manner in which its attendant mental factors grasp blue, are the same only in that they appear as blue, but the two are not the same. Although this is included in the co-emergent cause, it is separated out for the sake of necessity. If it is a corresponding cause, then co- The example of both is like establishing a characteristic based on a subject, or establishing a subject based on a characteristic, mutually becoming cause and effect. This is an imputed cause and effect, merely a cause and effect that follows accordingly. The internal co-emergent cause and effect is like the mind and mental factors mutually becoming cause and effect. That is, in the retinue of the main mind, eye consciousness, the five omnipresent mental factors necessarily arise, and other mental factors arise as appropriate. When the main mind arises as a virtuous nature, virtuous mental factors arise in its retinue as appropriate; when it arises as a non-virtuous nature, non-virtuous mental factors arise in its retinue as appropriate; when it arises as an indeterminate nature, indeterminate mental factors arise in its retinue as appropriate. Moreover, as mentioned above, the mind and mental factors are both produced from one cause, and their abiding is also separate, Like things that change from arising. That is, the particles of the four great elements, wherever there is one, there is all of them. As it is said, each of the four great elements has one particle, and in that place, the other three are also present. That is, from the first moment of the earth particle, the second moment of the water, fire, and wind particles arises. Moreover, this is also produced from one arising cause, and the collection also abides together, therefore it is called co-emergent.
