Namo. Moreover, these seven entering consciousnesses each have their respective proximate uses. The proximate uses of the six entering consciousnesses are form, sound, smell, taste, tangible objects, and phenomena, because they are experienced and enjoyed by the six aggregates. The proximate use of the afflicted mind is also experiencing the mere appearance of self by focusing on the basis of all, therefore these seven entering consciousnesses are those that have proximate uses of objects. "Enjoyment and" refers to the feeling aggregate. For example, when eye consciousness, together with its basis, sees blue, the appearance of blue of eye consciousness is experienced and enjoyed as feeling. Afterwards, the thought of "this is good" or "this is bad," discriminating the differences of objects, is perception. Then, for that blue object, being led by the perception of thinking it is good, one becomes attached and clings; being led by the perception of thinking it is bad, one abandons and hates. These are all formations. Therefore, it is able to accumulate karma, which is what is meant by entering formation. Thus, feeling, perception, and formation all arise from the mind. Regarding the principle of the arising and ceasing of samsara, it is said in the Ornament of the Sutras that from one's own realm—the basis of all consciousness—although in reality it does not exist, due to the power of habit, the appearance of the duality of grasper and grasped arises. From this arises ignorance, as well as other afflictions such as desire and hatred, and together with them, conceptual thoughts that enter arise abundantly. By accumulating from this, due to its power, one is caused to be born in samsara in the three realms. "Ignorance together with afflictions," why is ignorance separated from other afflictions? Because ignorance has something more praiseworthy than other afflictions in terms of doing things, so it is explained separately. That is to say, ignorance is the non-recognition that the appearance of the duality of grasper and grasped does not truly exist, and the knowledge that mistakes the non-existence of the duality of grasper and grasped as existence. Due to its power, attachment arises towards some things, and hatred arises towards others, and other afflictions also arise because of this. The so-called complete abandonment of two substances refers to the appearance of the duality of grasper and grasped, which is also now, due to the power of mental confusion, established as a state of different substances from the grasped, that is, from grasping external objects.

The grasper and the grasped also appear as if they exist within in a manner distinct in substance from the grasped. However, in reality, for a true yogi, in conventional truth, there is only a clear and pure consciousness, and that very consciousness appears as the aspect of the object grasped, and also appears as the aspect of the grasper. There is no difference in substance, as one consciousness appears as two. The way to reverse samsara is to first rely on obtaining the distinction of the object of focus. By familiarizing oneself with shamatha and vipashyana, the grasper and the grasped no longer appear, but one enters into the state of one's own essence. If explained in more detail, the distinctions of the object of focus are fourfold, as stated in the Ornament for Clear Realization: "The object of focus, dharma, and inner, outer, and both are considered to exist." So, what kind of dharma should one practice? One should also meditate by focusing on the sacred teachings of the Buddha, the holy Dharma scriptures. For example, death and impermanence, and the selflessness of phenomena, although both are common to both inner and outer, the practice of these by outsiders does not become a cause for attaining liberation, while the practice of these by insiders becomes a cause for liberation. The reason is the difference between focusing on the Buddha's teachings and not focusing on them. The reason for this is that the scriptures are the homogeneous cause of the Dharmakaya, so the Buddha's mind is like a mold of the Dharmakaya. When meditating by focusing on it, it is as if the mold is imprinted on one's own being, therefore it can become the cause of Buddhahood. The inner object of focus is the mind that grasps inwardly, the outer object of focus is the object that is grasped, and the object of focus of both is the wisdom free from elaboration that pervades both. The way in which the inner and outer become the object of focus for practicing the path is, for example, when a beautiful woman appears, if a non-virtuous thought arises, considering her to be pleasing, then strong desire and attachment will arise. If a virtuous thought arises, knowing that the object is impure, impermanent, etc., then the nature of aversion will arise. Therefore, for that object, the object of focus of non-arising has also gone. Therefore, the object itself is the source of all afflictions and
