Because of having parts, it is impossible to be all-pervasive, as all material things have many parts of location. Gross things have many parts of atoms, and even the atoms themselves, if analyzed, have many parts. For consciousnesses, although there are no parts of location that divide space, they do have many parts of time. For example, a kalpa also has many parts of years, a year has many parts of months, a month has many parts of days, a day has many parts of breaths, and a breath has many parts of moments. And even a moment, if divided into its beginning, middle, and end parts, becomes something with parts. Therefore, if one thinks that something without parts cannot be all-pervasive because it is extremely small, then something without parts is suitable for being all-pervasive, while something with parts is definitely not suitable for being all-pervasive. For example, when spreading sand on top of a pile of sand to pervade it, the sand pervades each grain's location with another grain, rather than one pervading sand accomplishing many pervaded things. The ultimate realm is also established as wisdom, because it is known by the wisdom of the Buddhas. If there is knowledge, then a knower and a known are needed, because for a single self, there is no term for knowledge. As it is said, "A sword's blade does not cut itself, so too is consciousness. A lamp does not need to illuminate itself, because there is no darkness to obscure it." etc. This is when refuting conventional self-awareness, where a knower and a known are needed, etc. But this is ultimate self-awareness, so a knower and a known are not needed. Just establishing it as one's own essence is enough to establish it as self-awareness by the reason of wisdom. For example, the essence of water is merely being moist and wet, and it does not need a wetted and a wetter. Because merely being moist is the essence of water, all water is moist, and it does not need to rely on another wetter, becoming moist when it encounters it, and if it does not encounter it, the water is not moist, it is not necessary to be so. Instead, merely establishing the essence of moistness is sufficient. Similarly, here too, a knower and a known are not needed, but it is enough to be established as self and wisdom. Therefore, "Svasamvedana" is the Sanskrit term for self-awareness. Therefore, the idea that a knower and a known are needed, and the idea that darkness must precede clarity, etc., these...

It is merely an appearance of wisdom. Therefore, one cannot refute the mere self-awareness. The reason for being all-encompassing is that it is generally known that space and wisdom are inseparable, and this alone establishes it. Since ultimate space is no different from the wisdom of the Victorious Ones, it is established that it is the wisdom of the Victorious Ones. Therefore, why would ultimate space not have infinite qualities? It definitely does. Since ultimate space is established as the wisdom of the Victorious Ones, it knows all knowable things, and therefore it holds the ultimate aspect of all knowable things. For this reason, all aspects of samsara and nirvana appear in the dharmadhatu, thus it is established as all-encompassing. Moreover, in the Nirvana Sutra and other scriptures, the ten perfections and other infinite virtuous dharmas are taught as the nature of reality. Therefore, ultimate space abides in the nature of reality in a way that is in accordance with virtuous dharmas, and because of this, practicing virtuous dharmas will manifest this ultimate space. For afflictions and other non-virtuous dharmas, space abides in the nature of reality in a way that is not in accordance with them. Therefore, practicing non-virtuous dharmas will not manifest it, but purifying and completely abandoning these will manifest it. The reason for being free from elaboration is that ultimate space is free from elaboration and also free from the verbal expressions of mental concepts and the words uttered at any time, because it transcends conceptualization and all its objects. The reason for being unpolluted is that ultimate space can never be polluted by the collection of untrue pervasive thoughts, because there has never been an untrue pervasive thought that could pollute it. Moreover, since space pervades sentient beings, if one thinks that it will be polluted or mixed with the various faults of sentient beings, that is not the case. Although ultimate space exists in its original state, the collection of defilements is only a temporary illusory appearance and has never actually existed. Therefore, ultimate space cannot be polluted. An issue arising from this is, if ultimate space is free from elaboration, then
