Knowing just a little of what is to be known, not being completely ignorant. As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: "I do not have mirror-like wisdom, I am fully endowed and always present. Because I am not ignorant of all that is to be known, therefore I am not always manifestly inclined towards it." Thus it is. The essence of the wisdom of equality is that it does not abide in the two extremes of existence and peace, and it understands that all of samsara and nirvana are equal. As it says: "Abiding without abiding in peace is considered the wisdom of equality." Thus it is. Individual discriminating wisdom is wisdom because it knows all dharmas without obstruction and has mastery over teaching the Dharma to those to be tamed. As it says: "Individual discriminating wisdom is always unobstructed in all that is to be known." Thus it is. The essence of the wisdom of accomplishing activities is the wisdom of emanating countless emanations in the realms of the world and accomplishing various benefits for sentient beings. As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: "The wisdom of accomplishing activities is that in all realms, with various, countless, inconceivable emanations, it accomplishes the benefit of all sentient beings." Thus it is. Secondly, how these arise from causes is that the wisdom of the Dharmadhatu arises from meditating on profound samadhi on the path of learning. As stated in the Ornament: "Thusness arises truly from all meditation." Thus it is. Hearing and holding many holy dharmas gives rise to mirror-like wisdom; meditating on the equality of self and others gives rise to the wisdom of equality; truly revealing the true Dharma gives rise to individual discriminating wisdom; accomplishing the benefit of others gives rise to the wisdom of accomplishing activities. As stated in the Ornament: "For the sake of holding and for the sake of equality of mind, for the sake of truly revealing the excellent Dharma, and for the sake of the nature of accomplishing activities, the four wisdoms truly arise." As it is said. Thirdly, how these wisdoms arise from transformation is that the transformation of the alaya consciousness is mirror-like wisdom; the transformation of the afflicted mind is the wisdom of equality; the transformation of the mind consciousness is individual discriminating wisdom; the transformation of the five sense consciousnesses is the wisdom of accomplishing activities. As stated in the Sutra Entering the Three Bodies: "The alaya consciousness dissolving into the Dharmadhatu is mirror-like wisdom. The afflicted mind dissolving into the Dharmadhatu

Cessation is the wisdom of equality. The cessation of consciousness in the Dharmadhatu is the wisdom of discernment. The cessation of the five sense consciousnesses in the Dharmadhatu is the wisdom of accomplishing activities. As it is said. Fourth, the manner in which the consciousnesses transform: For example, when an object of iron is cooked with the essence of alchemy, its unsightly colors such as black, and the hardness of the object diminish, but the essence of the iron object does not diminish. It transforms into pure gold, with a beautiful color and a soft nature. Similarly, through the power of cultivating the path, although the characteristics of each consciousness that have become adventitious defilements are abandoned, the lineage of those consciousnesses never reverses, but transforms into the wisdom of the Buddha. For example, abandoning the characteristics of the Alaya consciousness, such as the all-encompassing nature of seeds and the indistinct appearance, it transforms into mirror-like wisdom, endowed with five qualities such as the absence of self-grasping. Therefore, as it is said: Holy Tara said, "In the treatise 'The Heart Essence of the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel,' the nature of one thing abandons its bad characteristics and holds onto a good state, thus transforming. Like a hard object, abandoning the color of iron, it transforms into gold." As it is said. Therefore, when one becomes a Buddha, free from all defilements, the individual who cultivates the path and the consciousnesses of their continuum do not completely disappear, but the lineage of those transforms into the holy being and wisdom of the Buddha. As it is said in that very text: "When the confused individual is exhausted, they become enlightened. If that is abandoned, then that individual is also abandoned. From the power of the former, wisdom arises through transformation. That is then referred to as the holy being of the Buddha." As it is said. When the individual and the consciousnesses transform, they are called the holy being and wisdom of the Buddha, but they are not called the individual and consciousness of a sentient being, just as when an object of iron transforms into gold, it is not called iron. If it is said that conventional phenomena are taught as things to be abandoned, then the newly attained qualities of the Buddha would also become things to be abandoned, because they are conventional.
