Both the established dharma are not substantially established. For example, the sound has the characteristic of impermanence because it is made. When such a reason is established as the dharma to be proven, stating that it arises from causes and conditions, the former reason also becomes the latter's dharma to be proven. Similarly, the agent and the object, and the relationship of action, etc., are also not substantially established. Beautiful and not beautiful, and neutral, etc., high and low, and neutral, etc., those who experience happiness and suffering, those who know objects, those who see objects, agents, sentient beings, individuals, persons, etc., are also not substantially established because they are merely imputed by thought. The realms to which gods and hells, etc., go, the arrangement of the body such as feet and hands and eyes, etc., the arrangement of containers such as mountains and forests and houses, etc., the arrangement of objects of enjoyment such as light and darkness, etc., these coarse arrangements, although they become non-existent when analyzed as conceptual constructs, they are kept separate because they are different in relation to each other. Similarly, years, months, days, kalpas, etc., are also not substantially established, but are merely imputed by thought. Although the connection between the former and latter moments is imputed by thought, it is not substantially established because there is no connection in reality. Although two material objects are connected to each other in this way by imputation, they are not substantially established because there is no connection in reality. The color of space, the adorned space, the space of holes, etc., these objects that appear to the eye are also merely imputed and not substantially established. The forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile objects, etc., that appear before the mind, for example, the appearance of a vase, if repeatedly contemplated, a clear appearance arises as if actually seen, etc., are forms that appear before the mind, and these are also merely conceptual constructs. Hunger and thirst also arise depending on the changes in the elements that occur internally, and are imputed to them, but are not substantially established. Similarly, eating, enjoying, moving, etc., are also conceptually constructed by thought, but are not established as substantial. Furthermore, children, youths, and the elderly, etc., are differences in states.

Because various names are applied to many diverse things, they are not substantially established. Numbers such as one and two, directions such as east and west, and times such as past and future are also imputed. The statement that two things contradict each other is also a mental imputation, because contradictory things are not substantially established. Similarly, negation and affirmation are also mental imputations and are not substantially established, because something that is established in the reality of things cannot be negated, and something that is not in reality cannot be affirmed, and something that is in reality does not need to be affirmed. Thus, if one does not ascertain the absence of truth in the totally imputed, one cannot ascertain the other-dependent, and if one cannot do that, there is no realization of the thoroughly established. Therefore, it is important to recognize the imputed phenomena, and considering that one cannot confuse the knowledge of just one example with all other things, more than a hundred directly indicated examples are mentioned here, but not all totally imputed are included in them. Therefore, all these categories of the totally imputed are not established as substantially existent things on their own distinct aspects, but are merely imputed by mental discrimination. Moreover, if one divides the basis of imputation, there are three types: those with an indefinite basis of imputation, such as direction and time; those that rely on a single basis, such as the arising of the vase in front; and those that rely on many, such as various causes and various effects. If one divides the basis of imputation, there are these three types. The third, non-things, are space, analytical cessations, the two non-analytical cessations, any unarisen phenomena, and when something that previously existed is later destroyed, it becomes a non-thing that has transformed into something else. The generalities of things, such as the generality of a vase and the generality of a pillar, are non-things that rely on things such as vases and pillars. The impossible, the generality of the non-existence of a vase, and the generality of the non-existence of a pillar, and so on, are the three types of non-things. All of these are merely imputations by mental discrimination, therefore, some non-things are things.

The non-existent that depends on things, the non-existent that depends on the relationship of things, and the non-existent that is hypothetically established based on the inconsistent aspects of things, because it is a fabricated non-existent. The latter two categories of non-existent also only include the non-existent of the transformation of things. Thus, the three aggregates, realms, and sources, in the form aggregate, there are also the realm of arising, as well as the container world, and sentient beings, the three. In the mind source, there are also mind, intellect, and consciousness, the three. In the dharma realm, there are also the dharma of the basis of characteristics, the dharma of characteristics, and the dharma of non-existence, the three. In the basis of characteristics, there are also the feeling aggregate, the perception aggregate, and the formation aggregate, the three. In the characteristics, there are also those based on objects, based on time, and based on things, the three. In the non-existent, there are also the non-existent of the transformation of things, the non-existent that depends on things, and the impossible non-existent, the three. Thus, these twenty-one are called the basis dharma, and ordinary people enjoy the non-existent dharma, which is the conventional truth. From this, those who are cast off enjoy the existent dharma, which is the ultimate truth, thus proving that the ultimate truth exists. Thus, these twenty-one existent dharmas, although not directly necessary for the determination of the ultimate, are explained in order to understand the characteristics of the totality of knowable things. Second, in determining the classification of the path, even if there is no other entity of the path that does not include these twenty-one basis dharmas, the categories should be separately distinguished according to the needs. Among them, the path, in the sense of its going, is the vehicle. Among them, as stated in the Lankavatara Sutra, there are five vehicles: the vehicle of gods, the vehicle of Brahma, the vehicle of hearers, the vehicle of solitary realizers, and the vehicle of Buddhas. Among them, the first is, in view, the worldly right view of believing in the result, and in conduct, the meticulous conduct of adopting and rejecting the result. Possessing these two views and conduct is the vehicle of the path that leads to progress, and the result of this progress is obtaining the six classes of desire gods and the perfect birth of humans and others. This vehicle of gods is not a vehicle of liberation.
