It is also like that. Among them, for the gods of the Four Great Kings, one day is equivalent to fifty human years; for the gods of the Thirty-three Heavens, one day is equivalent to one hundred human years. Previously, they enjoyed the wealth of the heavens for a long time, and because of their comfort, their minds became infatuated, and they did not know that a long time had passed, so they did not feel happy. From the moment the signs of death appear, the feeling arises that they must endure intense suffering for a long time, so the suffering of those seven days is also long and heavy. The suffering of falling into the lower realms is: after dying from the heavenly realms, if there is no remaining virtue, then one will involuntarily be reborn as any of the animals, hungry ghosts, or hell beings. It is not just the suffering of death, but even if one obtains the happiness of the heavens, the lack of ultimate security is the main cause of suffering. After dying from the heavenly realms, in most cases, there is little remaining virtue. If there is no remaining virtue, then after this life, one will involuntarily and unwillingly be reborn as any of the animals, hungry ghosts, or hell beings, and thus suffer. At the time of death, the divine powers of the gods will see where they will be reborn. If they know that they will be reborn in the lower realms, they will fear entering that unbearable place of suffering and their bodies will wither from suffering. Even if they know that they will be reborn as humans, they will suffer from the thought of becoming poor and lacking enjoyment because their desires cannot be satisfied, and they will die with this suffering. If there is no remaining virtue, one will be reborn in the lower realms; if there is a little remaining virtue, one will be reborn as a human; and to be reborn from the heavens to the heavens is very rare. The suffering of the Asuras is described below: Even among the Asuras, there is great mental suffering because they hate the wealth of the gods. Although they have evil intentions, they cannot see the truth because of the obscurations of samsara. Even in the realm of the Asuras, the Asuras are jealous of the natural wealth of the gods and harbor hatred, so their mental suffering is particularly great. Among them, "natural" refers to the Asura's wealth being taken away and the common enjoyment being possessed by the gods.

Rather than that, the gods, by the power of their own merit, naturally possess enjoyment, but the Asuras, due to jealousy and hatred, wage war against the gods. The gods possess nectar and great merit, so they die less and their armies do not decline. When fighting against the gods' armies, the Asuras do not possess nectar and have little merit, so they are killed and defeated, and become extremely miserable. The beings of the Asuras, although they may possess intelligence and wisdom and enter the Dharma with faith, the so-called 'suffering of conditioning' prevents them from seeing the truth and attaining the path of transcendent wisdom and liberation, solely due to the fault of taking that body. Moreover, they will not even attain the path of detachment, such as meditative absorption and formless samadhi. The commentary says that 'natural' means having a strong sense of pride, but this is not related to the meaning of the words. The suffering of human beings is not discussed here because it has already been discussed in the context of impermanence of death and in the context of 'suffering of old age, sickness, death, and separation,' so it is not repeated. The summary of the meaning is: Samsara is like that, so gods and humans, hell beings, animals, and pretas, in all purity, are not good births, but are the births of many harms, know this. All of samsara must experience such suffering as mentioned above, so wherever one is born, whether as a god, human, hell being, preta, or animal, it becomes a vessel or basis for many sufferings such as the three sufferings, six sufferings, and eight sufferings. Knowing this, turn away from non-virtuous actions. The Asuras are not mentioned in this verse because they are considered to be included among the gods. Having thus explained the path of seeing and its extended meaning, we now explain the result—Nirvana—and the cause—the path of meditation. Among these, there are two: advice on the result—Nirvana—and advice on the path of meditation. The first is: If a fire suddenly breaks out on your head or clothes, even giving up other things to stop it, you should strive to ensure that there is no more rebirth. There is nothing more supreme or important than this. That yogi who abides in the equipoise of samadhi in order to attain the state of Nirvana, which does not require rebirth.

If one's head and clothes suddenly catch fire, extinguishing the fire will hinder concentration due to distraction, but not extinguishing it will enhance concentration. Therefore, abandon the act of preventing those fires. To be free from rebirth and to prevent rebirth, one must remain unwavering in single-pointed concentration. There is nothing more important or supreme to accomplish than this. Through pure morality, wisdom, and meditation, attain the state of Nirvana, which is peaceful, gentle, and without defilement. Do not seek immortality. Attain liberation from earth, water, fire, wind, sun, and moon. Through the three trainings of pure morality, wisdom, and concentration, one can attain the state of Nirvana. Nirvana is suffering, and abandoning suffering is Nirvana. Peace is being free from thorns and roughness, which means being without afflictions. Gentleness is being without actions that connect to Samsara, and being without defilement is being free from faults. The commentary states that peace is explained as Nirvana without remainder because it is completely separated by the peace of suffering, and gentleness is explained as Nirvana with remainder because it is distinguished by the subdued senses. All compounded things decay and age, they perish and disappear, so do not seek immortality without aging and death. The bliss of Nirvana does not diminish and will not be reborn into Samsara, so it is inexhaustible. Liberation from earth, water, fire, wind, sun, and moon means that the naked non-Buddhists believe that there is a white city of liberation in the sky, and the Ishvara and Vishnu schools believe that the abode of Ishvara and Vishnu is liberation. Do not be like them, thinking that the arising of desires, etc., or that compounded things arising from things that arise or will arise are liberation. Attain the supreme liberation of the uncontaminated realm of reality. Such a compounded place as desired by non-Buddhists is not liberation, because it is transformed from arising things and will eventually perish. In the explanation of the cause of the path of meditation, there is advice on the seven branches of enlightenment, advice on meditating on the twelve links of dependent origination, and advice on the eightfold noble path. The first of these is divided into two parts: the main point and the related meaning. The first part is:
