It is for the benefit of those (sentient beings). The method of placing in the Bodhi of the Buddha is: After obtaining the power of the Victorious One, transcending the world, the state of mere name, tranquility, and immovability, may you attain the state of no aging, ignorance, and lack. Here, whether the lineage is certain or not, all those who have the potential of the Mahayana are both victors and powerful ones, because the guide of the world is the powerful one. Having attained such a state is to transcend the world. If someone asks: Are not the Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and other noble ones also transcendent of the world? Answer: They are transcendent of the world only from a rough point of view, but they still have the ground of ignorance and habitual tendencies, stainless karma, a mind-made body, and the inconceivable Dharma of death and birth. Therefore, the defilements of cyclic existence have not been completely purified, so they are not truly transcendent of the world. The body, speech, mind, activities, and deeds of the Buddha are shown by names that others cannot reach, and all that should be abandoned, such as obscurations, are completely pacified, and it is an immovable and constant body. This body will not age due to the change of the five aggregates, will not pass into Nirvana due to showing the fault of impermanence, and has no faults. May you attain the state of perfect enjoyment body! This is the act of benefiting beings by showing the activity of placing the disciples on the position of the Buddha in the manner of instruction. The meaning of the completion of this treatise is threefold: First, the name of the treatise is mentioned, which is "A Letter to a Friend," written by the great scholar Arya Nagarjuna to King Sadvaha. Second, the colophon of the translation, translated and finalized by the Indian Abbot Sarvajnatideva and the reviser-translator Bandhe Palste. Third, the exhortation to the benefactor of the translation: May this rain of teachings from the virtuous teacher Nagarjuna, Nourish the lake of the king's heart, May the many fish and frogs of the kingdom and its entourage, Be protected and fulfill their hopes as desired. The last two verses were composed by the translator. Thus, like Arya Nagarjuna's, The essence of the nectar of speech, Matured King Sadvaha, May the essential meaning of the teaching be found.

This is the chief of all who enjoy the land, victorious over all methods of governance, benefiting all endeavors, and composed to please all supreme noble ones. Thus, may the light of the stainless Dharma illuminate and dispel the darkness of decline in this world, may the path of the Great Vehicle be realized without obstruction, may the two benefits of self and others be spontaneously accomplished, and may the benefit of beings through the unchanging, supreme body be vast! This commentary on the "Letter to a Friend" composed by the great master, the noble Nagarjuna, was recorded by the ruler of all lands, Tsang Desi Phuntsok Namgyal, according to the oral instructions of the venerable omniscient Tāranātha. May this also become a cause for the flourishing of the omniscient Jonangpa teachings. Sarva Mangalam. Commentary on the "Letter to a Friend."
