Alas! Those called "pools flowing slowly" possess pleasing colors, scents, and tastes, are comfortable to the touch, and are adorned with golden lotuses and the like. In bathing pools possessing these qualities, one enjoys the bliss of bathing together with beautiful goddesses. However, after death, one must again fall into hell, into the bottomless river of ashes, becoming an unbearable boiling hot spring. One must enter there and endure the pain of flesh and bone separating for a long time. To show that there is no reliance on attaining the rank of gods in the three realms, (the text says:) The pleasures of the heavenly realm are extremely great, Having attained the bliss of detachment as Brahma, Again becoming fuel for the fire of Avici, Constantly enduring uninterrupted suffering. The gods of the desire realm, enjoying the perfect sensory pleasures of the heavenly realm, are said to be extremely happy. Moreover, this (referring to Brahma) is free from attachment to sensory pleasures, having attained the bliss of meditative absorption. Even Brahma himself, after death, will be reborn in Avici hell, the body becoming fuel for the fire of hell, and one must constantly endure uninterrupted suffering. The way the gods of the desire realm enjoy sensory pleasures is: the gods of the Four Great Kings' lineage, the Thirty-three Gods, the Gods Without Strife, the Tushita Gods, etc., are able to control the enjoyment of things nearby. The Gods of Enjoying Emanations are: above that, they can also enjoy the sensory pleasures they themselves emanate. The Gods Who Control Others' Emanations are: not only do they emanate themselves, but they can also enjoy the enjoyments that others emanate. For worldly beings, in terms of what is manifest and widely known, to show that there is no reliance on the wealth of the wandering gods, (the text says:) Having obtained the bodies of the sun and moon, their own light illuminates the entire world, Again they fall into a dark abyss, Unable even to see their own outstretched hand. Being born as the gods of the sun and moon, that is, having obtained the positions of the sun and moon, those who, by the power of their karma, with the glory of their own light, illuminate the entire world, are endowed with merit,

Alas! When life transmigrates to the dark abyss of the underground hell, one experiences the suffering of not even being able to see one's own outstretched arm. Sixth, suffering alone without any companions. Therefore, to repent for these transgressions, kindle the light of the three kinds of merit! One enters alone into the endless darkness where the sun and moon cannot penetrate! Quickly repent, or you will die! At the time of death, one dies alone; at the time of rebirth, one is reborn alone; at the time of accumulating karma, one accumulates it alone; and at the time of experiencing the results, one experiences them alone. Thus, alone and without any companions, one enters into the endless darkness of suffering that the sun and moon cannot penetrate. To dispel such darkness, hold in your hand the lamp of the three kinds of merit! These three kinds of merit are: the merit arising from generosity, the merit arising from moral discipline, and the merit arising from meditation. The first two are easy to understand, and the third is the practice of faith, renunciation, compassion, patience, and so forth. And the meditation on emptiness is the accumulation of wisdom, therefore it is mentioned here. Among the sufferings of various beings, the suffering of hell is described, and its causes and divisions are revealed: Beings who commit evil deeds, lead to constant suffering in the hells such as the Reviving Hell, the Black Line Hell, the Extremely Hot Hell, as well as the Assembling Hell, the Crying Hell, and the Uninterrupted Hell. Any sentient being who commits evil deeds, relies on and becomes accustomed to the ten non-virtuous actions, relying on the actions of body, speech, and mind, cultivating them in thought, accumulating and committing them many times, will be cast into the hell realm. The divisions are: the Reviving Hell, the Black Line Hell, the Assembling Hell, the Crying Hell, the Extremely Hot Hell, and the Uninterrupted Hell, these six are the directly indicated hot hells. By implication, when the Crying Hell is mentioned, it also includes the Great Crying Hell; when the Extremely Hot Hell is mentioned, it also includes all the hot hells, totaling eight hot hells. Through the word "etc.," it includes the eight cold hells, as well as the neighboring hells and the ephemeral hells. In these hells, one will experience suffering for a long time.
