The term 'self' for one who has already matured and experienced will not be established. Since it is non-existent, it will not exist in reality. Furthermore, the third possibility, which is neither existent nor non-existent, will also not appear or be known for the time being. Therefore, the so-called 'self of a person' is established in relation to the aggregates of grasping. Because of the mistaken belief that it exists, ordinary individuals merely impute it through conceptual thought. However, in the reality of things, it does not exist at all. By understanding this and meditating accordingly, the clinging to self will gradually weaken. Upon reaching the path of seeing, the clinging to self, which is the direct realization of selflessness, will be completely reversed from its root. The explanation of emptiness, such as the emptiness of the agent, is as follows: The aggregates are not produced from wishful thinking, not from time, not from nature, not from essence, not from a powerful god, not without cause, but from wisdom, karma, and craving, the treasury of wisdom. The five aggregates of grasping are: the aggregate of form, the aggregate of feeling, the aggregate of perception, the aggregate of mental formations, and the aggregate of consciousness. Although there are endless classifications of the aggregate of form, there are ultimately ten that are established: the faculties of the eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body, which are the realms or sources, these are the five internal forms, and the realms or sources of form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, which are the external forms. The aggregate of feeling has three types of feelings: pleasure, pain, and equanimity, or if divided into subcategories, there are pleasant feeling and mental pleasure, painful feeling and mental displeasure, and equanimity, making five. Perception is the grasping of characteristics or using them as prior signs, such as grasping existence and non-existence, right and wrong, good and bad, high and low, large and small, and connecting sound and meaning, such as 'This is white,' 'This is red,' 'This is a person,' 'This is an animal,' or grasping name and meaning as one. All non-virtuous phenomena such as desire, virtuous phenomena such as faith, and unspecified phenomena such as sleep, other than feeling and perception, all conceptual thoughts are the actual entity of the aggregate of mental formations, called associated mental formations. Non-associated mental formations are merely conceptual imputations on the differences of arising, ceasing, increasing, and decreasing of things, and are not substantially existent. The aggregate of consciousness is eye consciousness.
