These are especially to be mentioned because it is important for beginners to abandon these from the very beginning, so they are specifically mentioned. How do these hinder virtuous actions? Attachment to desire and the intention to harm others both hinder all virtuous actions of body, speech, and mind. The others mainly hinder meditation. In the explanation of the actual practice of the path of preparation and its related content, the actual practice of the path of preparation is: faith and diligence, as well as mindfulness, samadhi and wisdom, these five are the supreme Dharma. Strive diligently in this, these are called strength and power, and are also the pinnacle. Here, let me briefly mention the general points: the nature of the classification of the path of preparation, the nature of the five dharmas such as faith, the difference between power and strength, and how it combines with the four paths of preparation. First, if the path of preparation is classified, there are the stages of heat, peak, forbearance, and supreme dharma. Second, the essence of the wisdom of the path of preparation is: wisdom that focuses on selflessness, and other dharmas such as faith are its retinue. That is, in the common Lesser Vehicle, the manifestation of the selflessness of the person has small, medium, large, and extremely perfect, these in order are the essence of the four paths of preparation. In the uncommon aspect of the Great Vehicle, the manifestation of the object of grasping being selfless has three types: large, medium, and small, and the manifestation of the grasper being unreal, having obtained these, are established in order as the essence of the four paths of preparation. Third, knowing that the wisdom of equipoise has benefits, because of delight in this, faith arises, and with the six minds of aspiration for equipoise, one strives to cultivate, with mindfulness one holds, focusing the mind on the object, with samadhi one's mind abides on the object, and with wisdom one clearly distinguishes and realizes the object, these are the nature of the five dharmas such as faith. Fourth, the difference between power and the power of faith is: the meaning of the word power is to have control or autonomy over one's own object. That is, for the object of the five dharmas such as faith, having obtained a clear manifestation, and being able to freely use the clear manifestation obtained with wisdom, this is the power of faith and so on. The meaning of freely using after obtaining a clear manifestation is: from the beginning of cultivating faith, just as all minds merge into essence, cultivating the meaning of wisdom being selfless.

Those seem to have completely merged into the essence of wisdom that realizes the selflessness of all phenomena. The term "power" refers to having strength, not only being able to control one's own object of focus, but also being able to suppress and destroy opposing forces. The opposing forces are: the opposite of faith is disbelief, the opposite of diligence is laziness, the opposite of mindfulness is forgetfulness, the opposite of concentration is distraction, and the opposite of wisdom is perverse wisdom and wrong views, but mainly it is the nature of ignorance, which is the ignorance of not understanding the object of focus. Like this, the power to prevent and stop the conceptualizations of opposing forces through effort, or to destroy them by stopping them effortlessly, is called "power." Fifth, the four paths of union and the methods of practice are: When a Bodhisattva on the accumulation path cultivates the five qualities of faith, etc., with single-pointed concentration, and thus generates clarity, clarity is attained. Since the conditions and timing are not yet mastered, at that time, warmth is attained within the path of union, and the five faculties are attained in a small, ordinary, or common state. Again, through prolonged cultivation, the clarity on the object of focus of the five qualities of faith, etc., increases, and one no longer relies on conditions such as pleasure and pain, gain and loss, and one is able to remain focused on the object of focus in a single session for as long as one directs one's mind. This is the peak of the path of union, and it is also called the supreme, special, and excellent state of the five faculties. Although these two paths of union appear in this way during the state of meditative equipoise, it is not the case that in the intervals of post-attainment, the power of unwanted conceptualizations of opposing forces and the mixing of consciousness is placed within them. Again, through continuous practice of focusing on the object, by the power of the greatly increased clarity, unless one intentionally opens them, the conceptualizations of opposing forces do not arise in the post-attainment state. This is called the path of union of acceptance, and the five powers are attained in a small, ordinary, or common state. These are also cultivated for a long time, and the clarity reaches its culmination, and even if one intentionally distinguishes the conceptualizations of opposing forces in the post-attainment state,
