It is merely a designation. Based on the dhyana of causal equipoise, since the desire for what is to be abandoned is shown first, hatred is also implied by its force, because if one of the two exists, the other must also exist. Having reached the ultimate perfection of familiarity with flawless calm abiding, by meditating on the desire for desire and the antidote to hatred, the feeling of suffering, unpleasantness, and the afflictions of desire are manifestly abandoned, and thus obtaining the joy and happiness born from the mind being extremely secluded is the samadhi of the first dhyana of equipoise, and it is accompanied by the initial happiness of conceptualization. The term "investigation" implies conception, because abandoning conception must precede abandoning investigation. Since it is shown that the object of focus is coarse, knowing that the two, conception and investigation, are faults of yoga, and abandoning them with antidotes, the mind becomes extremely non-conceptual towards the object of focus, and abiding in the joy and happiness of inner clarity is the samadhi of the second dhyana. Knowing that craving for joy is also incompatible with samadhi, and abandoning it after looking at its own nature, there is no joy, and the mind abides experiencing the taste of physical and mental happiness, which is the samadhi of the third dhyana. Knowing that happiness is also a fault of dhyana, and abandoning it, the samadhi abiding in equanimity, clear, pure, and unwavering, is the samadhi of the fourth dhyana. The four dhyanas, although similar in that they are clear and focused on one point in the coarse mind stream, differ in that: the so-called "joy and happiness born from the mind being extremely secluded" is because the afflictions of desire and suffering disturb the mind, causing distraction, boredom, and discomfort, but obtaining the samadhi of the first dhyana eliminates boredom, and thus especially generates the joy and happiness of obtaining seclusion. The joy and happiness of inner clarity is the happiness focused on the one-pointed samadhi in the second dhyana, and abiding in the joy of craving for it. The third dhyana is abiding in the happiness of abandoning joy, and in the fourth dhyana, "abandoning suffering" means that the suffering of feeling has already been abandoned in the first dhyana, so there is not much new to abandon here, but abandoning happiness

To dispel the doubt that (the four dhyanas) are similar to suffering, this shows that it is the samadhi of equanimity and correspondence that abandons both suffering and happiness. The way to obtain the dhyana of fruition is: having obtained the samadhi of the first dhyana, one will be reborn in any of the three places of the first dhyana, mainly the Great Brahma; having obtained the samadhi of the second dhyana, one will be reborn in any of the three places of the second dhyana, mainly the Clear Light Heaven; having obtained the samadhi of the third dhyana, one will be reborn in any of the three places of the third dhyana, mainly the Increasing Virtue Heaven; having obtained the samadhi of the fourth dhyana, one will be reborn in any of the three places of the fourth dhyana, mainly the Great Fruit Heaven. Their respective gods and lifespan, dwelling, body, enjoyment, etc., will all obtain the same kalpa. The samadhi that obtains the three places of the first dhyana, although there is no good or bad in essence, but due to the size of the steps and the support of other virtues such as giving, one will gradually be reborn to higher realms from the smaller ones. The other realms such as the three places of the second dhyana should also be inferred by analogy. The third point is to exhort to accumulate powerful good deeds: constant and clinging, and without antidote, the merits mainly depend on the karma arising from the root, the five of good and non-good are all great, so one should diligently practice good. Constantly and repeatedly doing, whether it is good or non-good, will become powerful. Manifest clinging, that is, doing with strong intention, such as killing with great hatred, giving with great faith, etc., good and evil will become very powerful. Without antidote, that is, whether good or evil, if there is no antidote that can destroy it, it will become powerful. The direct antidote to non-good is to confess sins, and to cultivate the good deeds that purify with sins as the target, and to practice the Dharma of the path, these are the direct antidotes that destroy non-good. Even other good deeds that are not direct antidotes can destroy non-good. Although non-good cannot become an antidote, it is considered an antidote merely to destroy good deeds.
