If not taken beforehand. Except for the dragon kings who live until the end of the kalpa, on each of their heads flows a constant stream of sand and water mixture. The more heads, the more suffering; the more possessions, the more suffering. Therefore, one must always reduce greed. The sixth point is that as a Bodhisattva on the path of accumulation, a householder should control and abandon bad family relationships. For example, like an executioner connected to a natural enemy; like a lowly maid who despises household chores; and even a thief who steals small things. These three types of wives should be completely abandoned. Like an executioner, connected to a natural enemy, harboring malice and harming oneself; like a maid despising a servant, having a contemptuous attitude towards household chores; and even stealing and hiding small things, like a thief. Whichever of these, one should abandon such a wife. Conversely, one should associate with wives who possess virtues: like sisters who are compliant, like friends who are intimate, like mothers who wish for benefit, like maids who are obedient, and like family deities who are revered. Like the best of sisters, whose actions do not conflict with one's own brothers and who are compliant. Similarly, one should associate with wives whose actions are in accordance with oneself. Like close friends, making one's heart content and comfortable. Like mothers, wishing and thinking of what is beneficial to oneself. Like maids, listening to one's words, serving with respect and fear. Being obedient and revering one's wife like a family deity. One should associate with such a wife. The commentary says that applying the word "family deity" to the special qualities of women is not appropriate. Regarding knowing the measure of food: food should be recognized as being like medicine. One should partake without greed or hatred. Not for the sake of fatness, not for the sake of pride, not for the sake of adornment, but merely for the sake of maintaining the body. Knowing the measure of food also slightly involves eating in moderation. But most importantly, one must abandon the conceptual thoughts of afflictions and eat with a virtuous mind. This is like taking medicine, for the sake of nourishing the body and curing diseases.

Just like a crow, one does not eat out of greed for taste. One eats food to sustain the body, not out of craving for taste. Because there are no afflictions, no greed or hatred, food is used to subdue. It is not to fatten the body for the sake of beating others, fighting, competing in strength, etc. It is not out of arrogance, that is, pride and the desire for fame, that one deliberately consumes expensive food, showing off by saying, "I eat such expensive food." It is not to enhance radiance, to eat for the sake of playing with women. One eats solely to maintain the body, and maintaining the body is for the sake of doing good deeds. As Aryadeva said in the Four Hundred Verses: "Although this body is seen as an enemy, it should still be protected. One who possesses discipline and lives long will thereby create great merit." It is like that. The advice is that one should not sleep during the upper and lower parts of the night, but should strive in yoga. A person of intelligence, all day long, and after the upper and lower parts of the night have passed, sleep will not become meaningless; one should use those times with mindfulness. In the Tibetan versions and Tibetan commentaries, although the "reason" (རིག་པ་, rig pa) of "should" is emphasized, the Chinese version has "युक्ता (yukta)", so it must be translated as "reason". Therefore, one should call a king who possesses wisdom and intelligence a "person of intelligence". Unless it is because one is afflicted by illness and needs to restore strength, all day long, and after the upper and lower parts of the night have passed, that is, at dawn, during those times, when sleeping during the separate periods of the night, in order not to let sleep become meaningless, one should sleep with three mindfulnesses: the intention to wake up, the intention of light, and the intention of Dharma. The intention to wake up is: the hope to recover from fatigue and wake up quickly, which is the antidote to prolonged sleep. The intention of light is: to direct the mind towards the direction of not being drowsy during the day, not to sleep indulgently, but to tighten the body slightly, sleeping as if avoiding sleep. At night, too, one should sleep with the intention of light, which is the antidote to preventing deep sleep. The intention of Dharma is: to sleep in order to strengthen the body, to recover from fatigue through sleep, and then to wake up from sleep and engage in Dharma.

Engaging in activities. Having these aspirations, even the time of sleep will not become meaningless and fruitless, but will be endowed with virtuous Dharma. These are the Dharma categories that have been taught as inseparable from the path of accumulation. The summary of the meaning is: The practice of a Bodhisattva on the path of accumulation consists of two aspects: actual practice and pure conduct. The first is: Based on abiding in discipline, cultivating the wisdom of hearing, contemplation, and meditation, which is directly taught in verses. In terms of pure conduct, the unattached mind of the noble lineage is taught by advising contentment with little desire. Abiding with mindfulness, manifesting joy, is taught by abandoning the discriminations of the eight worldly dharmas, and by the need to adopt and abandon even subtle karmic results, and by having shame and embarrassment, and by mainly instructing householders, and by the need to abandon gambling and other things. One should understand the measure of food, and one should not sleep in the upper and lower parts of the night, but should strive in yoga, as taught by the easily understood scriptures above. Those on the path of accumulation need to cultivate the four mindfulnesses, which are included in the cultivation of wisdom. If the cultivation of right exertion is applied to the path of accumulation, it is included in abandoning the discriminations of the eight worldly dharmas, and in adopting and abandoning subtle karmic results. Although the miraculous feet are not mentioned here, it should be known that this is derived from the power of abandoning the five faults below, and that the corresponding accumulations and preparations have also been obtained. Among them, the four right exertions are: causing unarisen virtuous dharmas to arise, protecting arisen virtuous dharmas, not causing unarisen non-virtuous dharmas to arise, and abandoning arisen non-virtuous dharmas, which are the nature of diligence in guarding one's mind. The four miraculous feet are: the miraculous foot of aspiration, diligence, action, and the miraculous foot of mind, these four also belong to the category of samadhi. Regarding the Dharma related to the path of preparation, there is the teaching of the cause and accumulation of the path of preparation, and the teaching of the path of preparation itself with its actual practice and digressions. The first point is the beginning of the four points, advising to meditate on the four immeasurables: Loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, always cultivate them correctly! Even if you have not attained the higher realms,
