The ground is the most important. Although there are limitless precepts of Bodhisattvas in terms of discipline, here it refers to the Pratimoksha precepts. It is taught that those on the Accumulation Path must equalize the eight worldly dharmas: gain and loss, pleasure and pain, praise and blame, good and bad reputation. These eight worldly dharmas should not be the object of my mind; please equalize them. The World-Knowing, Perfectly Enlightened Buddha taught that the eight worldly dharmas must be equalized. That is, having abundant resources is gain, lacking them is poverty, having a healthy body and a peaceful mind is pleasure, not having them is pain, hearing pleasant words passed on from one to another, and unpleasant words, being praised directly, and being criticized—regarding these eight dharmas, worldly people cling to them and engage in attachment and aversion. This is due to deluded wisdom, and it is merely mental fabrication. It is not appropriate to engage in attachment and aversion as objects to be abandoned or adopted while abiding in reality. Therefore, do not rejoice or be attached to the four, such as gain. Do not be saddened or angry towards the four, such as loss. Please equalize these eight dharmas. It is taught that those on the Accumulation Path must abide in abandoning and adopting the results: Do not commit evil for the sake of your Brahmins, monks, gods, guests, parents, wives, or retinue. There will be no share of the ripening of hell. King, do not commit evil for the sake of the Brahmins, monks, and the offerings to the gods in your place of worship, or for the sake of guests, parents, wives, and other retinue. If you think that doing those things is not for your own sake, so there is no fault, or the fault is small, that is not right. From the depths of your heart, the result of committing evil with the complete karma, action, and subsequent action will come upon yourself. Those for whom you did it will not take a share of suffering in hell, nor will they take away the burden of your own ripening suffering. There will be no one to help, no one to be a friend. Therefore, do not commit evil even for the sake of others.

nor ever commit sinful deeds. The subsequent meaning of this verse is: If one thinks that the result of committing sinful deeds will not appear immediately, so there is no need to abandon them, then, even if the sinful deeds committed do not immediately cut off like swords, when death comes, the result of sinful deeds will eventually appear. Most of the results of committing sinful deeds do not mature and cut off immediately like being stabbed by a sharp sword, but when death, the bardo, and future lives come, one will experience and manifest the ripened results of sinful deeds. So, when will the results of karma mature? There are two types: karma with uncertain retribution and karma with certain retribution. First, karma with uncertain retribution is further divided into two types: done but not accumulated and not done but accumulated. Done but not accumulated is further divided into three types: large, medium, and small. Engaging in the preparatory stage of good or bad karma, but not reaching the actual action is small; engaging in the preparatory stage, stopping halfway due to regret is medium; engaging in the preparatory stage, completing the actual action but not yet producing consequences, and then feeling strong regret is the large karma of done but not accumulated. Rejoicing in the good or bad deeds of others, circumambulating without faith, unintentionally dropping a stone from the hand and killing a living being, etc., are karmas of not done but accumulated. If many similar karmas of done but not accumulated and not done but accumulated are accumulated, or if they encounter other causes and conditions of similar good and bad types, they will experience the results; if they are destroyed by non-antidotal, dissimilar types of good and bad karma, they will not produce results, so they are karmas with uncertain retribution. The second type is done and accumulated, which is karma with certain retribution. It can be divided into retribution in this life, retribution in the next life, and retribution at a different time. The first is, in a special and excellent environment, accumulating good and bad karma with strong intention, the initial part of the maturation result will mature in this life, but since it is not fully mature, it will be in the next life.
