Therefore, please understand the attachment to desires, and prevent the craving for desirable qualities from the very beginning. Thus, after explaining the Dharma of mindfulness that precedes all paths, next, the actual path is explained. Among these, the common path of the Lesser Vehicle is explained in detail, and only the entrance to the uncommon path and fruit of the Great Vehicle is shown. First, the object of meditation is identified in a concise manner, and then the order of the five paths is explained in detail. The first is: In order to see the ultimate meaning, practice familiarizing yourself with proper attention to things. There is no other Dharma that possesses such qualities. The purpose is to see and realize the ultimate reality. Generally, ultimate reality refers to emptiness and freedom from elaboration, but here, it mainly refers to the selflessness of the person, which is the object of meditation. Familiarize yourself with proper attention to things. The benefit of this is that, generally, unspecified and non-virtuous things are meaningless and wrong, so there is no benefit. All virtuous things have benefits, but there is no other Dharma whose benefits are equal to or the same as proper attention. The essence of proper attention to things is to meditate on the meaning of the four truths. The reason for calling it proper attention is that meditating in accordance with the reality of things, that is, considering what is as what is, and what is not as what is not, is proper attention. Afflictions are improper attention, so the two are contradictory. Through proper attention, the afflictions of improper attention are destroyed. Meditating on the meaning of the four truths is to contemplate the sixteen aspects of the four truths, such as impermanence. Starting from the truth of suffering, there are four: impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness: all conditioned things are impermanent, all contaminated things are suffering, all phenomena are empty, and all phenomena are selfless. Meditating on these meanings, that is, meditating on things included in form and consciousness, because they are conditioned by causes and conditions, they are "conditioned."

Furthermore, since in an instant, the future state has not yet arisen and the previous one has ceased, just as it is impermanent because it is constantly changing and decaying. Correspondingly, to properly apply the mind, all conditioned phenomena except for the path truth are tainted. That is, the container world of the three realms, the sense faculties, the body, consciousness, mental factors, etc., are all tainted. Among them, feelings associated with suffering are the suffering of suffering, feelings associated with pleasure are the suffering of change, and feelings associated with equanimity are the suffering of conditioning. Among these, the suffering of suffering is known even by animals and the like; the suffering of change is seen by those with wisdom; the suffering of conditioning, although it is the basis of all suffering, is not known by others, but is realized by the noble ones. The so-called emptiness of all phenomena, generally emptiness refers to freedom from elaboration, but here the aspect of the truth of suffering, emptiness, refers to the emptiness of incompatible cause and effect. The agent such as the Lord, and the other authors such as the temporalists, what is created by them is impossible in the reality of things, and it is known to be empty by such authors. The various compatible and suitable causes and conditions come together and merely appear as a result. The selflessness of all phenomena, the self that is grasped by the innate clinging to self, never exists in reality. From the perspective of the object, it does not exist internally, externally, or in between, at any time in the past, present, or future, and understanding it in this way is applying the mind to the aspect of selflessness. The aspect of the truth of origination has four aspects: cause, origination, condition, and production, although the meanings are the same, the nature of origination, the two, affliction and karma, produce the result—suffering, and the two, affliction and karma, of the same kind also produce various things. Therefore, understanding that all causes and effects of samsara arise from karma and afflictions is applying the mind to the aspect of the truth of origination. The aspect of the truth of cessation has cessation, peace, excellence, and liberation.
