Although different, they converge on one meaning. When afflictions are abandoned, karma ceases. When karma ceases, suffering ceases. The awareness that arises from the cessation of karma, afflictions, and suffering is self-aware and self-illuminating. It is the ultimate end of all suffering and the realm of supreme bliss and cessation. Generating certainty in this way is contemplating the aspect of cessation. In the aspect of the truth of the path, although there are four: path, proper consideration, practice, and renunciation, they converge on one meaning. The essence of the truth of the path is the wisdom, samadhi, and discipline that are free from defilements. This has the power to abandon afflictions and enables one to attain the state of cessation. Generating certainty in this way is contemplating the aspect of the truth of the path. Explaining the divisions of the five paths in detail, there are two: showing the stages of the path of ordinary beings and showing the noble path together with its result. The first has the teachings related to the path of accumulation and the teachings related to the path of preparation. First, in the path of accumulation, it is shown that one must especially abide in discipline and wisdom: Those with good birth, form, and learning, If without wisdom and discipline are not revered. Therefore, whoever possesses these two qualities, Even if lacking other qualities, is worthy of offerings. Whoever is of royal lineage, like a great sala tree, or of Brahmin lineage, like a great sala tree, becoming excellent in lineage, possessing a beautiful form with beauty and health, and having thoroughly studied the treatises of terminology such as the eighteen sciences, If they do not have the wisdom to practice reality and know the path to liberation, and do not have the discipline to abide in pure acceptance and rejection, then they are not worthy of reverence by the world with gods. Moreover, if one possesses the qualities of good birth, form, and learning, then what need is there to say? Even if lacking other qualities, whoever possesses the wisdom to know reality and the path to liberation, and the qualities of perfect discipline, is a supreme object of offerings and reverence in the world. Moreover, wisdom has three types: wisdom arising from hearing, wisdom arising from thinking, and wisdom arising from meditation. In this case of the path of accumulation, there are the two: wisdom arising from hearing and wisdom arising from thinking.
