Walking gradually on the path, and when arriving at that place, again gradually passing through the path, thinking of arriving at the seat where one dwells. Doing this repeatedly, and finally relaxing and resting in a state without an object of focus. Like that, when various states of mind arise depending on those with an object of focus, then abiding without artifice in a manner without an object of focus, not being tightly focused, nor being loosely focused, but abiding relaxed without artifice. Then, when seeing, hearing, and so on occur with respect to any external objects such as forms, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile objects, for example, when the eye sees a form, not negating its appearance, nor engaging in conceptual analysis of it, but relaxing and resting without artifice on that very thing. Then, not only with respect to external objects, but also whatever arises in the mind such as happiness, suffering, and appearances of objects, not allowing that appearance to diminish even slightly, but relaxing and resting without artifice on it. Like that, whatever thought arises, by relaxing and resting on it without artifice, it will naturally dissolve and pacify. Second, introducing. There are eight aspects of introducing. First, introducing the nature of mind as clear light. When one's own mind examines and analyzes itself, because it has no color, shape, or any location, it is free from being grasped, but just being clear awareness, existing as an experience of self-awareness, that is the clear light of its own nature, introducing it like that is the first aspect of introducing. Second, the various conceptual thoughts that arise in the mind cease in each previous moment and generate in each subsequent moment, and because they are non-existent as soon as they arise, therefore the stains are adventitious, introducing it like that is the second aspect of introducing. Third, these various appearances of external objects, and these various conceptual thoughts that arise in the mind, because they appear without being examined or analyzed, one should not say that they do not exist, but because they are not established by themselves, one should not say that they exist, therefore they are beyond both existence and non-existence. This own mind also cannot be found by searching anywhere inside or outside, and because it is free from being grasped, one should not say that it exists, but because it is known and experienced as just being clear awareness, one should not say that it does not exist, therefore it is beyond both existence and non-existence. All dharmas are one.
