Meditate on the center of the navel chakra and four lotus petals in the four directions outside the central channel. If the central channel is not clear, meditate on a four-petaled lotus in the heart. If the central channel is not clear, meditate on a four-petaled lotus in the heart, with an A-syllable (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A) or a blue Hūṃ-syllable (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hūṃ) in the empty center. On the four petals, starting from the east and going clockwise, visualize the four neuter letters ṛ (Tibetan: རྀ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ऋ, Sanskrit Romanization: ṛ, Literal Chinese meaning: ṛ), ṝ (Tibetan: རཱྀ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॠ, Sanskrit Romanization: ṝ, Literal Chinese meaning: ṝ), ḷ (Tibetan: ལྀ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ऌ, Sanskrit Romanization: ḷ, Literal Chinese meaning: ḷ), and ḹ (Tibetan: ལཱྀ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ॡ, Sanskrit Romanization: ḹ, Literal Chinese meaning: ḹ) clearly. Hold the vase breath and focus your mind on them. Then, focus on the short ṛ-syllable in front and hold three vase breaths, etc. Similarly, focus on each of the other three syllables and hold three vase breaths, etc. Focus your mind on the central syllable for a slightly longer time and hold the vase breath. Then, the short ṛ-syllable in the east dissolves into the long ṝ-syllable on the right, making it majestic, and the eastern lotus petal becomes empty. Focus your mind on the syllable on the right and hold the vase breath. Similarly, the long ṝ-syllable dissolves into the short ḷ-syllable behind, and the short ḷ-syllable dissolves into the long ḹ-syllable on the left, and then they also dissolve into the central syllable, visualizing it as majestic and radiant. Focus your mind on it and hold the vase breath. This is the intermediate visualization for grasping the clear light. In brief, if you prefer seed syllables, clearly visualize a blue Hūṃ-syllable (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hūṃ) in the center of the four-petaled lotus in your heart and focus your mind on it. If you prefer bindus, visualize a blue bindu radiating light from the melting of the Hūṃ-syllable (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hūṃ). If you prefer the deity's form, visualize a one-faced, two-armed deity in the center of the lotus and focus your mind on it, and you will grasp the clear light. The extensive visualization for grasping the clear light is: Visualize the heart chakra, where you appear as the deity, as an eight-petaled Dharma wheel facing downwards, and the navel chakra as a sixty-four-petaled manifestation wheel facing upwards. Where these two meet, visualize a blazing A-syllable (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A), the nature of inner heat, in the center of the navel chakra. In the center of the heart chakra, visualize a long Hūṃ-syllable (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hūṃ), and on the four directional petals, visualize Sum (Tibetan: སུཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: सुं, Sanskrit Romanization: suṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Sum), Yum (Tibetan: ཡུཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: युं, Sanskrit Romanization: yuṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Yum), Kṣum (Tibetan: ཀྵུཾ, Sanskrit Devanagari: क्षुं, Sanskrit Romanization: kṣuṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Kṣum), and Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं, Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Hūṃ) in a counterclockwise direction, and in the four corners, visualize from the northeast in a clockwise direction. The firelight of the A-syllable (Tibetan: ཨ, Sanskrit Devanagari: अ, Sanskrit Romanization: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A) of the navel chakra,

Think that everything is filled with heat, and practice holding the vase breath. Also, in the center of the four petals of the vajra jewel lotus, visualize either a blue ཨཾ་ (Tibetan: ཨཾ་, Devanagari: अं, Romanized Sanskrit: aṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: ཨཾ་) or a blue ཧཱུཾ་ (Tibetan: ཧཱུཾ་, Devanagari: हूं, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: ཧཱུཾ་), and focus your attention on it. If you are accustomed to the bliss that arises from combining with a karma mudra, then rely on the karma mudra. Otherwise, if you practice the bliss that arises from the jnana mudra, then visualize all the dissolving bodhicitta from the upper and lower parts of your body gradually gathering and becoming a white bindu with a reddish glow in either your heart or the jewel of your secret place. Focus your mind on this, experiencing that comfortable sensation, and hold the vase breath. In this way, intensely practice all the visualizations for holding the clear light during the day, and go to sleep at night with your mind focused on the visualization, so that you will attain the clear light. However, it is not necessary for one person to practice all of these types of visualizations; it is sufficient to attain the clear light by relying on any one of them. If you still cannot attain it in this way, then in a dark room or in a cloudless sky, assume the seven-point posture of Vairochana, roll your eyeballs upwards, gaze at the empty space, and meditate without thinking of anything. Alternatively, roll up your right eye and look at the sky with rosaries etc. on the left side; roll up your left eye and look at the space with rosaries etc. on the right side, and meditate with your eyelids half-closed. Practice like this for about seven days, and then practice the above visualizations for about seven days again, and you will attain the clear light. This is the instruction for attaining the clear light of daytime. Enhancing the power of the clear light: Visualize in your heart a white lotus with eight or sixteen petals, with the petals half-raised. If you practice with eight petals, then visualize ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: ཨ་), ཨི་ (Tibetan: ཨི་, Devanagari: इ, Romanized Sanskrit: i, Literal Chinese meaning: ཨི་), ཨུ་ (Tibetan: ཨུ་, Devanagari: उ, Romanized Sanskrit: u, Literal Chinese meaning: ཨུ་), རྀ་ (Tibetan: རྀ་, Devanagari: ऋ, Romanized Sanskrit: ṛ, Literal Chinese meaning: རྀ་), ལྀ་ (Tibetan: ལྀ་, Devanagari: ऌ, Romanized Sanskrit: ḷ, Literal Chinese meaning: ལྀ་), ཨེ་ (Tibetan: ཨེ་, Devanagari: ए, Romanized Sanskrit: e, Literal Chinese meaning: ཨེ་), ཨོ་ (Tibetan: ཨོ་, Devanagari: ओ, Romanized Sanskrit: o, Literal Chinese meaning: ཨོ་), ཨཾ་ (Tibetan: ཨཾ་, Devanagari: अं, Romanized Sanskrit: aṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: ཨཾ་) on the petals. If you practice with sixteen petals, then clearly visualize the sixteen vowels. Within that, visualize an eight-petaled red lotus, with the petals half-raised. On the petals, visualize ཨ་ (Tibetan: ཨ་, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: ཨ་), ཀ་ (Tibetan: ཀ་, Devanagari: क, Romanized Sanskrit: ka, Literal Chinese meaning: ཀ་), ཙ་ (Tibetan: ཙ་, Devanagari: च, Romanized Sanskrit: ca, Literal Chinese meaning: ཙ་), ཊ་ (Tibetan: ཊ་, Devanagari: ट, Romanized Sanskrit: ṭa, Literal Chinese meaning: ཊ་), ཏ་ (Tibetan: ཏ་, Devanagari: त, Romanized Sanskrit: ta, Literal Chinese meaning: ཏ་), པ་ (Tibetan: པ་, Devanagari: प, Romanized Sanskrit: pa, Literal Chinese meaning: པ་), ཡ་ (Tibetan: ཡ་, Devanagari: य, Romanized Sanskrit: ya, Literal Chinese meaning: ཡ་), ཤ་ (Tibetan: ཤ་, Devanagari: श, Romanized Sanskrit: śa, Literal Chinese meaning: ཤ་). Within that, visualize a four-petaled blue lotus, with the petals half-raised.
