Origin: The secret name given during empowerment in the mandala is Padmasambhava (པདྨ་སཾ་བྷ་ཝ,padma saṃbhava,Padma Sambhava, Lotus Born). In the past, the people of Oddiyana respectfully named him Kamala Kuliśa (ཀ་མ་ལ་ཀུ་ལི་ཤ་,kamala kuliśa,Kamala Kulisha, Lotus Vajra). This is because there was a drawing of a blooming lotus marked with a vajra on his forehead. The clan name given to him in his youth was Padma Avabhasa (པདྨ་ཨ་བ་བྷ་སི་,padma āvabhāsi,Padma Avabhasi, Lotus Radiant). The name respectfully offered by his disciples was Shri Mahasukha (ཤྲཱི་མཧཱ་སུ་ཁ་,śrī mahāsukha,Shri Mahasukha, Glorious Great Bliss). Later, when he went to Oddiyana, the people of Oddiyana named him Padma Vajra because his activities were similar to those of the previous Glorious Great Bliss Padma Vajra (པདྨ་བཛྲ་,padma vajra,Padma Vajra, Lotus Vajra). In the east, west, south, and center of India, he mainly performed various beneficial activities, primarily those mentioned above. Compared to that, he did more beneficial activities in Nepal and other places north of the Ganges River. In particular, his beneficial activities in the region of Troding (འགྲོ་ལྡིང་,gro lding) were the most extensive, because he was the first to subdue that region, and there are still many pure followers of his teachings to this day. Compared to that, his beneficial activities in Tibet (བོད་ཁམས་,bod khams) were even more extensive, because it seems that there is not a single being among the humans and non-humans in this region, from the past to the present, who has not been tamed by this emanation form and this name as a sign, except for the difference between direct and indirect. These are only represented by this form and name. Otherwise, who could possibly describe the extent of the liberation of those who have attained union? This master is mainly engaged in the activity of subduing non-humans. Compared to all those mentioned earlier, his activities of benefiting non-humans in places like Rakshasa Island (རྔ་ཡབ་གླིང་ཕྲན་,rnga yab gling phran) are extremely extensive, because the former were only in limited areas, with few beings, and for a short period of time, such as hundreds or thousands of years, while the latter is difficult to measure in terms of place, time, and beings. Regarding this, in the legends of India, it is said that he came to the snowy mountain region, subdued all the evil nagas and yakshas, and inspired faith in the king and others through his miraculous powers. Apart from that, there is no detailed account of his coming to Tibet. Moreover, it is not known whether this happened before or after the subduing of Troding.

The meaning is unclear, and Tibetans believe that they went from Tibet to the land of Rakshasas, while the 'Gro-lding-ba believe that they went there from 'Gro-lding. Although it is not contradictory to show two manifestations of the body simultaneously, if we calculate according to the time when the disciples and grand-disciples who appeared in 'Gro-lding benefited beings, it seems that they went to 'Gro-lding after going to Tibet. Regarding the history of going to Tibet, there are many records in biographies and Tang Dynasty chronicles, but let's put them aside for the time being. Among the Nyingma Kama, such as the 'Heart Essence Garland of Views' and the Dharma cycles of Vajrakila and Hayagriva, many historical outlines are similar and seem trustworthy, but the subtle differences within them are very numerous. Among them, some say that the master was born miraculously, some say that he was born from a womb, and some say that he was born in a lotus, each different. Regarding the time spent in Tibet, some say three years, some say six years, others say twelve years, and some say eighteen years, and so on. From the terma, the shorter ones say fifty years, and most say more than one hundred years. Regarding this, if we consider it from another perspective, from the pure appearance of those to be tamed, then he still dwells there now, and constantly manifests his body simultaneously in all realms, so from one perspective, it doesn't matter how we measure it. However, it is not possible to arrange the order of time, etc., because it must be based on the common perception of ordinary people at that time. Therefore, it is said that there are three versions of the King's Testament, namely the actual 'Ba'i bzhed', and a version that continues the earlier content based on the 'Ba'i bzhed', and also a version supplemented by a Kadampa, and some ancient historical texts that have seen the 'Ba'i bzhed' and extracted the meaning of the 'Royal Testament'. From these, apart from slight differences in detail, most of the essence of the stories is the same. All the great masters also regard these three as credible sources, and the history of Guru Padmasambhava within them is also similar to most of the histories of the Nyingma Kama.
