Those words each have clear segments in Sanskrit. Here, "དབང་བོ་" refers to the king of the gods, and the gods and great ascetics like the son of Kata, who are very numerous, also could not fathom the ocean of phonetics, the endless, sea-like boundaries. It is said that the ascetic among the gods, the teacher Bṛhaspati, i.e., Jupiter, when teaching phonetics to Indra, even if he taught continuously for four thousand divine years without a break each day, he could not complete even the task beginning with the short "a". Therefore, the principles of phonetics are inconceivable. How can one measure the sky with steps? In order to understand each category separately, please speak concisely about the essentials now. When the hundred-sacrifice performer said this, Bṛhaspati also summarized and explained appropriately. Therefore, how can ordinary human beings like me, Anubhūti, be qualified or capable of speaking about and explaining the workings and all the formed aspects of that boundless phonetics that even the gods and ascetics could not explain? This is an expression of humility. Regarding the duration of a divine year, although it is explained in sacred teachings such as the Abhidharma, it must be explained according to one's own tradition. According to the views of Vedic practitioners and others, in the context of phonetics and poetry, it is necessary to explain the various categories. Therefore, it is believed that one human month is equal to half a day for the gods, and one human year is equal to one day for the gods. Thus, the slight explanation of the two verses listed at the beginning of the commentary is to generate interest in new learners. In these commentaries, external commentators present refutations and arguments of their own views in various ways to create spectacles, but since they are not very necessary, they are not explained here. Now, although it should be explained starting from the initial connection, for the sake of necessity, if naming is not done, later there will be errors of voluminous text, confusion of thought, and uncomfortable expression. Therefore, before making connections, the respective terms should be established first. "ཨ་ཨི་ཨུ་རྀ་ལྀ་ས་མཱ་ནཱ། ཨ་ཨི་ཨུ་རྀ་ལྀ་མཚུངས་པ་རྣམས་སོ།" (Tibetan, Devanagari: अ इ उ ऋ ऌ सवर्णाः, Romanized Sanskrit: a i u ṛ ḷ savarṇāḥ, Literal Chinese meaning: A, I, U, Ṛ, ḷ, same). The letters "ཨ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: अ, Romanized Sanskrit: a, Literal Chinese meaning: A)", "ཨི་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: इ, Romanized Sanskrit: i, Literal Chinese meaning: I)", "ཨུ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: उ, Romanized Sanskrit: u, Literal Chinese meaning: U)", "རྀ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ऋ, Romanized Sanskrit: ṛ, Literal Chinese meaning: Ṛ)", and "ལྀ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari: ऌ, Romanized Sanskrit: ḷ, Literal Chinese meaning: ḷ)" are called similar letters.

I say. Here, if A, I, U, Ṛ, and Ḷ are connected, A and Ṛ would separate, but this is not done here. Connection is done when there is a need and desire, not because it is not permissible to not connect in all situations. Therefore, for what will be explained below, sometimes it is done that way to reduce the number of letters. But in the initial scripture phrases, if it were done that way, the scripture would not be beautiful and difficult to understand, causing students to feel difficulty from the beginning and develop fear, so it is not done that way. It is beautiful to be easy to enter and easy to explain from the beginning. ༈ The distinctions of short, long, and pluta vowels: those that are similar. A, I, U, Ṛ, and Ḷ. If these are distinguished, there are short, long, and very long, i.e., pluta, divided into three each, so there is also a view that there are fifteen in total. However, if the first four have three each, and Ḷ does not have a long vowel, then there are fourteen similar vowels. Some other scriptures hold that Ṛ and Ḷ do not have very long vowels, but this contradicts obvious facts, so it is not accepted here. Among them, A short, Ā long, A3 (Tibetan: ཨ྅་) i.e., very long, all three are the letter A, and it is the same for others. A and I, etc., five are similar to each other, but not the same. A long, short, and pluta are also similar to each other internally, and the same applies to I, etc. Any similar letters are also the same. ༈ lokaśāstrasya siddhirīti vakṣyati. It will also be explained here that the rest are accomplished from the world. Here, starting from naming terms such as similar and same, other remaining things, i.e., those not explained here, those widely known in the world, and those widely known in treatises, can also be used when explaining this scripture, and appropriate content will also be explained below. ༈ Furthermore, here it is said: eka-mātrā cātaka. dvi-mātrā bahesa. tri-mātrā śiśi bruyat. ardha-mātrā nakula. (Sanskrit Devanagari: एकमात्रा चातक। द्विमात्रा बहेस। त्रिमात्रा शिशि ब्रुयत्। अर्धमात्रा नकुल।, Sanskrit Romanization: eka-mātrā cātaka. dvi-mātrā bahesa. tri-mātrā śiśi bruyat. ardha-mātrā nakula., Literal Chinese meaning: one matra cātaka. two matra crow. three matra peacock say. half matra mongoose.) That is, if translated into Tibetan: one duration is cātaka, two durations is crow. Three durations, the crested one says. Half duration is nakula. This is using the sounds of those animals as examples. Mātrā (Sanskrit: mātrā, Sanskrit Romanization: mātrā) was previously often translated as "female organ," but here it means measure. Because "measure" is easily confused with volume, the word "duration" is used.
