He was staying in a cold room somewhere. There, during one festival, more than a thousand Brahmin linguists gathered. Many other learned people also gathered, and in order to test the newly arrived scholars, they spent many days in extensive conversations. One day, the teacher, with quick speech, said that for the meaning of "men," one should say "pumsu," but he uttered "pumkshu." Then, everyone present said that his pronunciation was incorrect, and they mocked him, saying, "You consider yourself so proficient in Sanskrit, how could you make such a mistake?" Realizing that he had spoken incorrectly, he felt very ashamed, thinking, "Such a thing has been done by previous linguists, and tomorrow I must present a book." Having said this, he departed. In the middle of that night, there was no such book to be found. How could he face them tomorrow? It would be better to die. So he searched for a sword and prepared to cut his own throat, and blood fell to the ground. At that moment, the Holy Mother Saraswati appeared in person, saying, "Child, child, do not despair." She instantly spoke this treatise, causing him to regain his breath. This treatise cites the Vartika composed by the son of the sage Kata, which explains that in the sense of effort, one should give "kak" Agama. She blessed the wound to be without pain. She said, "Yesterday in the assembly, if you had spoken the truth, you could have seen my face at that time and cut off doubts. But because you spoke deceitful words, you did not see me. This time you have created such suffering, and your sins have lessened, so you have seen me." Thereafter, by the power of the deity, this sutra spoken from the mouth of the Holy Mother, along with its commentary, was completed in the last session of the night. All the papers also appeared to be like old books that had been written for a long time. Then, when the sun rose, he showed the book in a joking manner at the place where the debaters had gathered as before. He quoted the famous treatise of the son of Kata, and everyone agreed. Then he revealed the truth, showed the wound on his neck, and told the story of last night, and everyone was amazed. Many scholars asked him to explain this sutra, and he explained it once. This teacher was roughly contemporary with the six scholars of Magadha. Since then, by the blessing of the deity, this treatise has become very popular, and it has famous commentaries.

ṛju

There are six commentaries. Some are lesser-known Regzig, and it is said that there are very many commentaries. The six are: For the sake of a king named Puñcarāja, The commentary composed by the master Vimaladāsa, also named Puñcarāja; And Kāmadhenu, that is, the wish-fulfilling cow, which is now hidden. These two were composed by Buddhist paṇḍitas. Sārpra-dīpeka, meaning completely illuminating, was made by a Brahmin; Maṇḍani, meaning becoming an ornament; Kāśinādi, meaning clear stream; and Vāsudeni, meaning daughter of the god of wealth, these three were made by Sannyāsis, these four were composed by non-Buddhist paṇḍitas. From ancient times until now, Kalāpa is prevalent in eastern Gaur-Bhaṅgala, and less so elsewhere. Candra-pā or Kumudi-vyākaraṇa is prevalent in southwestern Gujarat, and less so elsewhere. This treatise, transmitted from central Varanasi (Varanasi, a city in India), is very prevalent in all places. The teachings of Pāṇini have also not declined. Apart from these two places, most of those who study other grammatical texts also first engage with this one and then study the others, so that now, when Indians discuss grammar, this treatise is indispensable. Common culture and all non-Buddhist treatises are studied as much as possible in Varanasi (Varanasi, a city in India). It is a great university for all. This place is called "Wheel of the World" and "Tangled Hair," etc., which is a fabrication. Because it is the valley between the Varana River and the Asi River, it is called Varanasi (Varanasi, a city in India). In common language, it is called Banaras. Now, we will explain the meaning of the treatise and commentary. At the beginning of the commentary, it says: The supreme lord, having prostrated, For the sake of increasing the wisdom of children, The treatises made by Sarasvatī, Are composed to be easy to understand and not too extensive. This is its Sanskrit: praṇamya paramātmānaṁ bāladhīvṛddhisiddhaye, sārasvatīmṛjūṁ kurve prakriyāṁ nātibistārāṁ. That is, praṇamya is having prostrated or having paid homage. paramātmānaṁ, is to the supreme lord. bāla is children. dhī is wisdom. vṛddhi is increasing. siddhaye is for the sake of accomplishment. sārasvatī, is the daughter of the ocean or the ocean-born one, that is, the goddess Sarasvatī. sārasvatī, is of Sarasvatī, or "by...made." ṛju
