It is refuted by the name of... Only by this, self-nature cannot be established. Like two mountains that do not depend on each other. Saying "the designation of the right is the left," the designation of the right depends on the designation of the left, but the thing itself does not depend. Therefore, it is said that dependent origination is the main cause of arising. This is the fifth chapter, a well-spoken explanation of the establishment of the five dharmas, the three self-natures, and dependent origination. The other three, forward and backward, are companions of the innate ego-grasping. Ego-grasping is the desire to remain constant or temporary, thinking that what existed before is real, and that it will be cut off from it. For sentient beings, it is the view of permanence and annihilation. Conditioned phenomena never have the opportunity to be permanent. From impermanence, one realizes no-self and suffering. A sufferer cannot be an agent, and impermanence contradicts self and agent. Thus, the venerable one said in verse: Because it is born from an impossible cause, because it is contradictory, because its nature does not abide, because it is non-existent, because its essence is determined, because it follows, because it is destroyed, because it is the object of complete change, because it is the cause of that cause and effect, because it is held and because it has an owner, because it is pure and sentient beings follow, because it initially increases and becomes larger, because of growth and the object of dependence, because of change and complete maturation, likewise inferior and especially superior, light and non-light, going to another place and having seeds, the nature of having no seeds, arising in images, arising in fourteen ways, the difference of cause and measure, growth is meaningless and impossible, it is impossible in the nature of dependence, it is impossible to abide, the beginning is not destroyed, the end does not change, likewise inferior and especially superior, light and non-light, no going, abiding is impossible, the final nature is impossible, because it follows the mind, all conditioned phenomena are momentary. The great elements and the six meanings, what is called momentary, because of dryness and growth and the nature of, movement and growth and decay, because it is related to that great element, because complete change is the basis, color, smell, taste, and touch, because they are similar, it is similar to that. Because it is born from coarse firewood, because it is perceived as gradually increasing, because it follows the mind, because of questioning, by this.

Then the next moment too. Said: Whatever does not exist anywhere, it is unreasonable to call it permanent. Space and general categories, etc., even if explained by the wise, are for the sake of debate, for the sake of changing things, cutting off, and fame. Those are indeed examined to exist, merely the result of mental examination. These, because they do not change, if one thinks why are they not permanent? Because the basis of distinction is not established on this, even if there is no change, it is not unchanging. For things without a basis, arising and ceasing, etc., existence or non-existence, none is reasonable. Like the birth of a barren woman's son, saying there is none, but it is not unborn. The Dharmadhatu is nothing, it is said to be the ultimate truth of reality, if one desires such unbornness, it is not the ultimate truth, it is the same as this. If it exists and is established, there is no birth, it is called unborn. If it is established from the beginning, there is no birth, no arising, no abiding, and no ceasing. For things with arising and ceasing, it is considered that there are two: substantial existence and imputed existence. For abiding, there are three distinctions: substance, designation, and ultimate truth. However, if it abides after arising, it is abiding, if it abides from the beginning, there is no abiding. The two cessations are also created, these are all because of new arising. Because there is no non-ceasing for what has arisen, it is with arising and ceasing, it is conditioned. Cessation has one moment and two moments, there are those that last for kalpas, etc., because of the obtainer and its connection, it changes by the guidance of time. Even if it arises, it is not born, if you think so, there will be the same fault for form, etc. Even if it is born, it will not perish, if you think so, there will be permanent things. Even if it is non-existent, it will arise newly, that too is with cause, it will change. If so, there is no difference between things and distinctions, if you think so, what dharma has near attainment? Non-substantial existence is the non-substantial existence that is the basis of non-substantial existence, relative to the dependent is characterized by conditioned phenomena, merely imputed, it also arises for the sake of elimination. For it, there is no substantial arising. In conventional truth, this does not arise. Substantial arising and ceasing exist for things that are conditioned phenomena. In intellect and appearance, for those, from what does arising, ceasing, and change become established? If done from the perspective of imputed delusion, it is considered that non-substantial existence has a cause. Even if there is arising and ceasing, if it is not conditioned, there will be too much fault, even if it has its own characteristics of conditioned phenomena, who would say it is not? For non-substantial existence, near
