, in order to eliminate the powerless and discordant causes such as time, the Victorious One thoroughly explained the distinctions of cause, condition, and effect, as well as the various ways of dependent origination. All dependent origination is artificial and sudden, like the appearance of smoke arising from the knowledge of fire, and the appearance of afflictions generating the appearance of karma, from which arises the consciousness of appearance. The appearance of particles gives rise to gross appearance, the appearance of the senses is the appearance of forms, and the movement of mind manifests consciousness, and so on. The consciousness of arising is the consciousness born from that, the consciousness of abiding is the consciousness ceasing from that, and from that appears the consciousness that has ceased. Although the three times appear differently, they are not truly existent. One habit nourishes, and from that appearance arises, and that appearance also nourishes another habit. The two aspects of seed nourishment and consciousness, mutually benefit each other, and nourishment and consciousness arise continuously. These are the ultimate ways of abiding in conventional truth. Consciousness is also like the awareness in a dream, never having existed from the beginning, yet it appears without ceasing. Like the appearance of burning from fire in a dream, it transcends all existence and non-existence, permanence and annihilation. This is the way to enter the ultimate truth, and it is considered one of the stages of conventional truth. In the ultimate truth, there is never any dependent origination, and it is free from cause and effect and constructs. Because it is dependent origination, it is selfless consciousness, therefore it deeply enters into the selflessness of phenomena. On the continuum of aggregates and the alaya consciousness, the illusion of self, sentient beings, and phenomena arises. These dependent originations are conventional dependent origination, and the consciousness of that is selfless, thus entering the ultimate truth. Such a dharmadhatu, possessing the image of that appearance, is the only dependent origination of the ultimate truth. Such is the nature of dependent arising, the dependent origination of the ultimate truth is not dependent arising. It does not arise from anything, does not rely on anything, does not change, is free from elaboration, and is therefore constant. It is said that there are six causes, four conditions, and five results. The acting cause is the cause of self-nature, the co-emergent cause is a companion, understood as concordant. The similar cause is growth, it is an equal share. The pervasive cause, the obstructing cause, the ripening cause, the all-holding cause. The similar cause is mind and mental factors, the object and aspect are the same, therefore it is necessary.

Gathered together, they arise simultaneously. This has two aspects, inner and outer, with characteristics and bases like mind and mental factors, and the four elements. Among these, the very first moment of earth dust runs together with water, fire, and wind. Likewise, they should be joined together one by one. However, actual results and actual causes are unobstructed in their power, and appearing simultaneously is also the same. Co-emergent afflictions give rise to afflictions, with uncertain categories and levels internally. This is mostly included within the category of similar destinies. That is the concordant cause, such as virtue leading to virtue; similar locations and so forth are considered to generate similarity. Dissimilar virtue and non-virtue give rise to the unspecified. That which transforms into arising is the ripening cause. It is unreasonable for the acting cause to be without power, so that which is accompanied by action is the acting cause. The results are arising, nourishing, support, and place; change, separation, making, and reason; obtaining results, projecting, accomplishing, and creating obstacles; making old and making perish; determining and making undetermined, and so forth. In short, all causes are acting causes, but what is done by a person is distinguished separately from before. The cause and condition of all is the all-ground consciousness, the five co-emergent causes and so forth are considered causes. The immediately preceding cause is definitely reasonable here; the remaining ones are co-emergent acting conditions. The objective condition is what is seen and the object of focus, called the possessor, which is the support and included in the acting cause. The immediately preceding condition is of the same kind, one in cause; the immediately preceding desire and the objective condition, for the holding dharma it is, for others it is two conditions. The immediately preceding one is the enlightening action, or the desire to turn towards the object; if like the former, then there would be change for forms and so forth. For all holding parts, the four conditions are not definite, because by the power of existence, there is no cause to generate the result of separation. The result of separation that is severed through analysis is real, it is conventional truth; ultimate separation is real, it is the analysis of the result. The self-result is gathered by the object and maturation, and the continuum. Whatever arises from the perspective of the acting cause is the acting result; the result of similar destiny is called the similar cause. What is mainly stated is not necessarily exclusive. All causes are definitely included in two. If it arises from a cause, it necessarily depends on it. All dependencies are without self-nature, mutually dependent.
