Moreover, there are times when even the Shravakas pay homage, because of the latter reason and because of listening, etc., and there are also times when they take refuge. From the perspective of truly generating the mind and attaching to the ultimate path, as well as the noble ones, it is neither taking refuge nor paying homage. Therefore, what is mentioned here is also incidentally shown for the sake of increasing merit, but not as a part of generating the mind. The shown common and uncommon refuge and homage objects are "reversing from the evil destinies," etc. That is also the Bodhicitta, and this verse shows that by remembering the benefits of generating the mind in the manner of homage, it is necessary to generate the desire to obtain it. That is the union of great compassion and the wisdom of emptiness. For the time being, from the perspective of the path, even with great compassion, the Bodhicitta of exchanging self and others, etc., can exhaust countless evil deeds, and from then on, one can keep vows, therefore, one is liberated from evil destinies, and from the benefits of generating the mind itself, one can also obtain the status of the lord of gods and humans countless times, and because limitless virtues such as discipline arise from generating the mind, it shows the path to higher realms, and it has the merit of leading to the state of no old age and no death—the state of Buddhahood. Furthermore, through the wisdom of realizing emptiness, one can also abandon the evil destinies and their causes and seeds, and from that, countless virtues increase, and one actually accomplishes the noble state of no old age and no death. Alternatively, from realizing emptiness, one knows dependent origination, and from that, one knows that the relationship between cause and effect is not inverted in the conventional truth, therefore, with the former two, and with the ultimate truth, one thoroughly understands samsara, so one can also add "leading to no old age and no death." Alternatively, the Bodhicitta is the wisdom of uniting the Dharmata of the ultimate truth, and by focusing on it and meditating, those three benefits can arise. In some books, it says, "Well showing the path of liberation," some people think that the path to higher realms is already included in liberation from evil destinies, while the path of liberation generally shows all the paths of the three vehicles.
