There is no other ultimate teaching than the arising of dependent origination in conventional truth. Therefore, the wisdom of the basis of emptiness, which is empty of both the imputed and the dependent, is called the Dharma of Emptiness. The perfectly established ultimate truth, the reality free from grasping and being grasped, is the essence of the Sugata in the realm of Dharma. Here, the term "Dharma of Emptiness" is used, not merely the word "emptiness," but the word "Dharma" is taken as a definite grasp, in order to negate the emptiness that is merely the object of application of the term of negation, the freedom from elaboration. Here, "Dharma" does not refer to Dharma and Dharmadhatu, which are divided by the nature of Dharma, but to the meaning that is completely determined. Six aspects of negation and one characteristic of establishment, this verse with seven meanings clearly and extensively shows the selflessness of Dharma. Now, with regard to the selflessness of persons, Buddhas, sages, etc., Bodhisattvas and noble beings are called sages as previously explained. Therefore, the perfectly complete Buddha is the great sage. Being both Buddha and sage, he is the Great Sage Buddha. Just as he realized it, just as he showed it to those to be tamed, may they realize the meaning of selflessness. The talk of the Dharma of the selflessness of persons is taught in all the words of the Buddha, which are included in the Great and Small Vehicles. Since it does not arise from anything other than the Buddha's teachings, it is the main method of distinguishing whether it is the Buddha's teaching or not. Therefore, it is said here, "as the Buddha said." The selflessness of Dharma, partial, is also found in outsiders. The selflessness of Dharma, complete, is only the realm of activity of the Tathagata. It is not necessary for guiding persons of the Lesser Vehicle, and it does not appear explicitly in most of the Lesser Vehicle's collections. Therefore, with regard to the partial selflessness of Dharma, it is more pervasive than the teacher's words. With regard to the complete, it does not pervade all the collections. Therefore, the selflessness with the same prevalence as the teacher's teachings is the selflessness of persons. Whether it is innate self-grasping or anything else, sentient beings and self

In short, regarding the aggregation of body and mind, just that aggregation, holding that it can exist independently from the states and various parts of body and mind. This self-grasping is the imputed self-grasping, which arises from inference from bad philosophical systems, therefore, other many distinctions are also added on top of that. Those additions added by those mistaken ideas, which never existed from the beginning, are called the selflessness of the person. This selflessness is only explained in Buddhism. Among them, sentient beings, life, person, nourisher, and I, are generally shown as different forms of names, and clinging to these are also generally different forms of names. In detail, there are some slight differences: the four, such as sentient beings, can clearly appear as objects of the six senses, while I is only established by conceptual thought, and there is no other appearance besides that. However, from the ultimate point of view, sentient beings and so on also do not exist; from the valid conventional point of view, they also do not exist. If one thinks that even the self is not existent in the nature of mere imputation, then what is the difference? In the face of non-examination and non-analysis, the self, which is merely the basis of cause and effect, is accepted as merely imputed to be existent, similar to sentient beings and so on. However, if it is considered according to the way in which self-grasping grasps, let alone the way in which the imputed self-grasping grasps, it is not even possible according to the way in which the innate self-grasping grasps. Why is that? Because the innate also grasps the meaning of permanence and independence. Here, sentient beings, self, life, person, and nourisher, even in the innate consciousness of the world, become different names of self, because of grasping oneself and others as sentient beings; I say that parents nourish me; I say that I nourish horses and cows, and so on; when death occurs, the function of life completely ceases, I say I am dead; thinking that sentient beings like Devadatta no longer exist; for me, there is both wisdom and desire, there are also scriptures, and there is also the state of being full of flesh and blood; wisdom and so on do this and that, that is, thinking of the state of being contaminated, that is, thinking of the person as a pudgala; whether it is oneself or others, thinking of Senge Seng, do this thing
