It is established through equal abiding. Because there is no effort, the union without adding characteristics is also included in it. Therefore, although the union is known as twenty or five, it is actually only one. As it is said in the sutra, "Because it does not abide in form, etc., it prevents the union with it." In this sutra, only the non-abiding union is actually explained. The actual peak union is the three: the path of seeing, the path of meditation, and the path of no interruption. However, they are all unified in the form of the Perfection of Wisdom, so there is no difference in terms of object and form. However, the difference between abandoning what is to be abandoned and manifesting qualities is very great. Among them, the four grasping and grasped discriminations to be abandoned are: the afflictive discriminations that arise depending on the appearance of the grasped, such as attachment, anger, etc., and the discriminations that arise depending on the negative karma of these, which are the fundamental afflictive discriminations or grasped discriminations, which is the first. The discriminations of virtuous dharmas such as faith, etc., that arise depending on the appearance of the grasped, which are characterized by appearing as clinging to reality, are called the antidote to grasped discriminations. Even if the appearance of the external grasped is not directly focused on, but only the continuum of the mind is focused on, and one clings to the existence of self or dharma as real, this is called the discrimination of clinging to reality. Focusing on the continuum of the mind, clinging to the person or dharma as merely nominally existent, this is called the discrimination of clinging to imputation. Among these discriminations, those that manifest are gradually abandoned by the four paths of application. Among them, whatever is to be abandoned by the path of seeing, which obscures the mere seeing of the nature of reality, is uprooted by the peak union of the path of seeing. Whatever belongs to what is to be abandoned by the path of meditation, which obstructs the seeing of the distinctions of the nature of reality, is gradually abandoned by the successive arising of the peak union of the path of meditation. Among what is to be abandoned by the path of meditation, those that are called fundamental afflictive discriminations are the discriminations that exist depending on the latent afflictive obscurations. Even up to the eighth ground, it should be known that these are merely signless discriminations. The discriminations to be abandoned, together with their own object appearance, are originally
