When the six senses gather and rely on the appearance of external objects, the touch that transforms into knowledge arises, which is the limb of contact. Based on this, experiencing any of happiness, suffering, or equanimity is the limb of feeling. Based on this, craving arises, wanting to obtain happiness, wanting to abandon suffering, and delighting in abiding in equanimity, which is the limb of craving. As craving increases, the desire to accept or reject the causes of happiness, suffering, and equanimity arises, which is the limb of grasping. This also accumulates the karma that can project the next existence, or nourishes the habitual tendencies of the karma already projected, thus making it manifestly inclined towards accomplishing rebirth, which is the limb of becoming. Based on this, the aggregates of the next life are formed, which is the limb of birth. The aging of this very aggregate as its elements change, the aging as its age changes, the death as its life changes, and the sorrow that torments body and mind, the suffering of lacking food, clothing, and so on, the uttering of laments and displeasure, and confusion, and so on—this great mass of suffering will arise, which is the limb of old age and death. Thus, the twelve limbs are sometimes complete simultaneously, sometimes complete in a single moment when an action is completed, sometimes complete in one lifetime, and so on, there are many situations. For spontaneously born beings and beings in the higher realms, it is sufficient to have the appropriate limbs, and it is not necessary to have all of them, and so on, there are many situations. But mainly, it is explained as being completed in two lifetimes, divided into the limb of projecting, the limb of having been projected, the limb of accomplishing, and the limb of being accomplished, or the explanation of dividing it into three lifetimes, that is, the two completions of dependent origination in five lifetimes. However, these detailed explanations will not be elaborated here. This is the dependent origination of the cycle of existence. Because ignorance is abandoned, the limb of action ceases, that is, no longer accumulating the karma of projecting rebirth, from the cessation of birth to the non-arising of old age and death, this is the dependent origination of reversing the cycle of existence. These two sequences of dependent origination alone are what many sutras have declared as the dependent origination of arising and reversing, therefore,

From the cycle of aging and death to ignorance, the belief that only negation is necessary relies on one-sided explanations and is an act of craving power. If we clearly examine from where ignorance arises, it does not arise from itself, it does not arise from others, it does not arise from both, nor is it without cause. Therefore, ignorance is unborn. Because it is unborn, the entity of abiding does not arise. Because there is no abiding, there is no cause for destruction, so it does not perish. Thus, ignorance is devoid of the three—arising, abiding, and ceasing—and therefore has no inherent nature. The same applies from formations to aging and death. In the true state of affairs, there is no birth, no cessation, and although it is not established from the beginning, merely the gathering of causes and conditions that appear from non-existence, and the manifestation of a portion of the fruit that appears from non-existence, without obstruction, is called dependent origination free from the four extremes. This applies not only to the twelve links but also to all types of cause-and-effect dependent origination, such as seeds and sprouts. This is called the ultimate dependent origination, which is merely a temporary ultimate truth. The nature of conventional dependent origination, the all-knowing wisdom, is the dependent origination of the ultimate truth itself. From ignorance to aging and death, the twelve links of affliction are merely illusory appearances and have never existed in reality. Therefore, from the cessation of ignorance to the cessation of aging and death, it is merely the appearance of a yogi's mind and does not exist in any other reality. Just as a son in a dream never exists, his death is even more unreasonable. Because pure dependent origination is not established from the beginning, the freedom from extremes, which is merely the absence of inherent existence, is also merely conceptually posited in relation to what has extremes, but it does not truly exist. The all-knowing wisdom is also posited between ultimate ignorance and ultimate aging and death, and it also exists between the cessation of ultimate ignorance and the cessation of ultimate aging and death. This wisdom is not an illusory phenomenon that appears from non-existence, but it enters into reality and is truly established, yet it has no object of grasping, grasper, or conceptual constructs. If ignorance does not exist from the beginning, then it contradicts the fact that ultimate ignorance is established from the beginning with its own essence.
