O Yogi Yeshe! Do not be lazy, but diligently practice meditation! See all things as illusion and dream, and thoroughly observe the three realms of existence. Since they are like mirages and reflections of the moon in water, why not engage in yogic practice? Just as in the city of the Gandharvas, the actions of beings are clearly visible. Similarly, the body has the workings of the five aggregates, why not engage in yogic practice? In dreams, beings gather, just as a dreamer sees dreams. Similarly, since it is the place of the five aggregates, why not engage in yogic practice? This earth and the aggregates of earth and so on, are a collection of particles. These are the collection of mind and mental factors, all the sons of the Victorious Ones should observe! The four great elements are mutually combined, and possess characteristics such as striking. Why not engage in yogic practice? This is intoxicated by wind and bile, existing like rotten flesh, without any action. Why not engage in yogic practice? Like the tip of a hair, all beings dwell and move. Understand deeply that the perception of things like mirages, and substances, etc., are like mirages. Feelings are like bubbles, clinging to pleasure and pain. Formations are like plantain trees, destined to decay, without essence. Consciousness is like an illusion, its true nature does not exist. Just like the growth of grass and trees, why not engage in yogic practice? This is a dreamlike intoxication, this is a deception like an illusion. All these are like mirages, like the city of the Gandharvas. Thus it is said. If illusions and so on are not real as they appear, then the aggregates arise from their respective causes without error, because they have the ability to function, so it is thought that they exist in essence, but in fact, those things that arise from different causes do not exist in their own essence, because if the cause does not exist, they will not arise, so they must necessarily depend on the cause. For example, the image of a face appearing in a mirror does not exist independently in its own essence, because it is only a manifestation of the combination of the face and the mirror. These are, as the sutra says, "Form is emptiness," and similarly, "Feelings, perceptions, formations, and consciousness are also emptiness." The nature of the five aggregates as spoken of

Now, I will briefly explain the method of establishing emptiness through "non-existence." Form is emptiness. Emptiness is form, and so on, this is done as a basis for combination. The other four aggregates also need to be combined. Furthermore, just as the five aggregates are combined with emptiness, many scriptures say that even without gaps, it becomes the basis for combination. Emptiness and signlessness, etc., have the same meaning. Therefore, that is also acceptable. Because there is no greater power than the former, there is no need to explain the combination of the seven, such as selflessness, as a basis. Regarding these four phrases, such as "Form is emptiness," in the commentary, it is said that they are combined to correct the errors of non-Buddhists and lower schools of our own tradition, which does not seem to be a very appropriate explanation. In addition, among the terms mentioned here, "Form is emptiness" refers to the form that is nominally established, whose nature is emptiness. "Emptiness is form" means that the emptiness of form is the form of reality. "Form is not different from emptiness" means that the dependently arisen form, which is nominally established, is no different in its essence from the perfectly established emptiness. "Emptiness is not different from form" means that the perfectly established is no different from the nominally established form. This explanation is in accordance with the view of the Mind-Only school, and in some cases, it can also be accepted by our own tradition. However, it is not the ultimate view of the Other-Emptiness Great Madhyamaka school. Furthermore, regarding "Form is emptiness," etc., it means that form is empty in its own nature, and while being empty, it appears as the aspect of form. Therefore, there is no nature of emptiness apart from form, and there is no nature of form apart from emptiness. This is the view of those known as proponents of the absence of inherent existence. From one perspective, this is not contradictory, but it is not the ultimate meaning. Therefore, in our own tradition, combining the three natures as terms in an elaborate explanation refers to the basis for imputation of the aggregate of form, the appearance of sense objects, etc., as external, and their size, height, inferiority, goodness, badness, etc., are merely imputed phenomena fabricated by conceptual thought. All phenomena encompassed by the completely imputed are merely names, symbols, and appearances in conceptual thought, and do not exist in ultimate truth. Moreover, that is also conventional truth.
