The Vatsiputriya is divided into eight. Those who speak with distinctions are: the Mahisasaka, the Dharmaguptaka, the Sarvastivada, and the Kasyapiya, which are divided into four, so it is believed. The views of the Mahasanghikas are: the Father Mahasanghika has six parts, namely: the original Mahasanghika, the Ekavyavaharika, the Vatsiputriya, the Bahusrutiya, the Cetiyavada, and the Lokottaravada. The Sarvastivadins have seven parts, namely: the Sarvastivada, the Vibhajyavada, the Kasyapiya, the Dharmaguptaka, the Kasyapiya, the Dharmaguptaka, the Sautrantika, and the Samkrantika. The Sthavira Nikaya has four parts, namely: the original Sthavira Nikaya, the Dharmottariya, the Bhadrayaniya, and the Mahasanghika. The Haimavata has no divisions. Thus, the roots of the first divisions are: the Mahasanghika, the Sarvastivada, the Sthavira Nikaya, and the Haimavata. The views of the Sarvastivadins are: as stated by the teacher Dulvalha in the Wheel of Differentiated Sects: "Dwelling in the east, west, and Himalayas, there are sects that speak of the world beyond. There is the sect that speaks of permanence. The fivefold Sangha is the Mahasanghika. The root is the Sarvastivada and the Dharmaguptaka. The Mahisasaka and the Dharmaraksa. The disciples of the Bahusrutiya and the Kasyapiya. The sect that speaks with distinctions. Is the sect of the Sarvastivada. Dwelling in Jeta Grove, Fearless Mountain. The great monastery is the place of teaching. The Earth Announcer Mountain and the Protectors. The sects of the Sthavira Nikaya are. The three kinds of All-Revered. Due to the differences of the regional meaning teachers. They became eighteen different kinds." It is said that from the four root sects, the sects were divided into eighteen kinds. Moreover, in many tantras, it is said that the root sects are four, and the method of counting the four is not spoken according to the views of the Sthavira Nikaya, but is the same as this, so this tradition should be adopted, because it is said to be extracted from the words of the teacher Vasubandhu, so the source is also good. In the question of the age of a monk, it is similar to these four roots, the Mahasanghika is made into six parts, and the All-Revered is made into five parts, etc., although there are slightly different statements, it is necessary to adhere to one's own previous tradition, and there are many different names for the other different counting methods in the past.

occurred. In most cases, they are mostly different names for the same meaning, but there also seem to be some cases where the counting methods are different. Among them, the Kāśyapīya is: It arose from the breaking off of some of the lineages of the Arhat Kāśyapa. This sect is also called the Rain-Good-Doer. Similarly, the Earth-Master, Dharma-Protected, and Red-Robed are the followers of the sthaviras who hold those names. The Transformation-Sayers, the Lama-pa, and the Red-Robed are one sect. The Stupa-pa and the Eastern Mountain-pa are also one sect, and they are disciples of the Ever-Wandering Great God (梵文:Mahadeva). Separated from this are the Meaning-Accomplished-pa and the King's Mountain-pa. According to the later tradition, these two are not counted among the eighteen. The World-Transcended Mountain and the Crow Mountain are one sect. The same term is also explained as the general name for the Mahāsāṃghika. The Kuru Kukulla-pa is translated as the Earth-Roaring Mountain-pa. The Sthavira-putra, Dharma-Supreme, Good Path, and Six Cities are also generally considered to have the same meaning in a rough sense. Even so, in the sanghas of India and the islands, each holds the position of the four sects separately, without mixing. The doctrines and texts of the eighteen sects still exist to this day, but there are few cases where those who hold their respective tenets are not mixed. During the seven generations of the Pāla kings, it seems that there was a lineage of about seven sects. Even now, it seems that there are that many among the Śrāvakayāna Saṃghas. In general, on top of the four sects existing without mixing, the Sthavira-putra and the Kuru Kukulla-pa, that is, the two of the Mass-Respecters, and the Eternal-Sayers and the World-Transcended-Sayers, that is, the two of the Mahāsāṃghika, and the Sarvāstivāda and the Red-Robed, that is, the two of the Existent-Sayers, are certainly present. The one formerly known as the Example-Demonstrating Sect is the Sautrāntika, which separated from the Red-Robed. This is not counted separately among the eighteen. Formerly, when only the teachings of the Śrāvakayāna were flourishing, they certainly had different tenets. After the Mahāyāna flourished, all the Mahāyāna sanghas also belonged to these sects, but because they held the Mahāyāna tenets, they were the former
