Essence. The reason for tracing the lineage of Śāntarakṣita as a Svātantrika-Madhyamaka is that in Śāntarakṣita's Madhyamakālaṃkāra, it is not seen that Siṃhabhadra composed a great commentary on the Aṣṭasāhasrikā, and without remembering that Buddhajñāna was a student of Siṃhabhadra, considering Yaśas as a student of Buddhajñāna only shows the mark of a fool's foolishness. Śākya Blo-gros, Ngang-tshul-bzang-po, the spiritual friend of the prince, and the assistants of Paṇḍita Sa all appeared. In the land of Kashmir, a person named Harṣadeva ruled the kingdom. The accomplished masters who appeared at those times can be known through previous reasoning. In particular, the younger Virūpa seems to have appeared between this king and Devapāla. In the western region of Kaccha, there appeared a king named Vibharaṭṭa. His daughter was taken as queen by Devapāla, and it is said that she gave birth to Rāṣapāla. The younger Virūpa appeared during the time of Vibharaṭṭa. That king had both internal and external objects of worship, the king himself was inclined towards Buddhism, while all the ministers were devoted to outsiders. When building a temple there, many life-size stone statues of both internal and external deities were built. The Buddhists said to build separate temples, while the non-Buddhists said to build them together. The ministers arranged it that way. There, the younger Virūpa was invited for the consecration. Without performing any rituals, he simply said, "Ayi śa, ayi śa" (Tibetan: ཨ་ཡི་ཤ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: अयिश, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: aya iśa, literal Chinese meaning: Come! Come!), which in Tibetan means "Come! Come!" As he said this, all the statues of the deities went to the courtyard outside the temple. When he said, "Stay!", the deities sat on the ground. There, water was strained into a vessel, and when it was sprinkled slightly on the heads of the deities, the Buddhist deities immediately stood up, laughed loudly, and entered the temple, while the non-Buddhist deities bowed their heads and remained in the courtyard. The temple still exists today, called Amrita Khumba. The great teacher Toktsewa, the author of the treatise "Inconceivable," also appeared at this time. During the time of this King Gopala or Devapala, the glorious Odantapuri Monastery was also built. It is located in a part of Magadha, where non-Buddhist practitioners praise the power of yoga, accomplished and possessing the nature of uprightness, named Narda.

There was someone named Yeshe. He needed a helper to accomplish the Siddhi of the Corpse, someone who was strong, healthy, had nine warrior marks on their body, spoke truthfully, was sharp-witted and brave, without deceit, and skilled in all crafts. There were no other requirements besides these. I saw him staying with a Buddhist layman. I had my practice assistant approach him, but he said he wouldn't be a practice assistant for a heretic. Then he said, "You don't need to take refuge in heresy. It's enough to make wealth inexhaustible and spread the Dharma." I said, "Then I'll ask my teacher." After asking the teacher, he agreed, and he became his practice assistant. When it was close to accomplishment, he said, "You have to grab the tongue that the corpse throws out. If you catch it on the first try, you'll achieve great Siddhi. The second try is medium, and the third try is small. If you don't catch it in three tries, then first we'll both be eaten, and then we'll go to an empty land." The layman missed the first two times. Then he sat facing the corpse, and on the third time, he bit down and caught it. Then the tongue turned into a sword, and the body turned into gold. The layman took the sword and circled around, rising into the sky. The heretic said, "I practiced for the sake of the sword, so give me the sword." I said, "I'll go watch a spectacle." Then he went to the top of Mount Meru, circled the four continents and subcontinents in an instant, and then handed the sword to him. He said, "You take the body that turned into gold. Cut from the flesh without touching the bones. Don't spend the money on liquor, prostitutes, or other improper things. If you use it for your own livelihood and virtuous deeds, then the place you cut off today will be full tonight, and it will be inexhaustible." He himself took the sword and went to the heavenly realm. That layman, relying on the gold of the corpse, built the great monastery of Odantapuri (Flying Vajra Seat Monastery). "Odanta" means flying. The layman went into the sky and built the monastery according to the arrangement he had actually seen of Mount Meru and the four continents. That layman was called Uta Upaasika. That temple did not owe its existence to the grace of any king or minister. The wages, food, offerings, and all expenses of the temple builders, statue makers, and artisans were paid with the gold of the corpse.
