The Khenpo acted thus. His disciples were Shantideva and Virupa. The later story is that when he was studying at Nalanda Monastery, once he went to Devikota. A woman gave him an utpala flower and a conch shell, which he took and left. People said that the dakinis had blessed him, which was a pity. When asked what he had done, he said he wanted to throw it away, but when he threw it, it stuck to his hand and he couldn't throw it away. Then he met a Buddhist dakini, who said she had to save him. It is said that nowadays, the inner and outer dakinis give flowers, and whoever gives them first has the power to create obstacles. When asked if there was any other way, he said that he could be liberated if he went beyond five yojanas, but the sun had already set, so he couldn't reach it. So he stayed in a hotel under an overturned pot, meditating on emptiness. At night, the people there were called away one by one by the ogresses. Knowing that it was not the one who had been blessed, they sent him back again and again. Virupa was not found, and when dawn broke, the ogresses left. Then he fled and returned to Nalanda, and when he became a pandita, he thought that he must now subdue the ogresses, so he went to the southern Glorious Mountain. He requested Yamantaka from the teacher Nagarjuna Bodhi and practiced it, and one day he saw the deity face to face. It is said that he practiced for a long time and became one with the Glorious Wrathful One. Then he went to Devikota again, and the former non-Buddhist dakinis said, "The one who was blessed before has come." At night, a terrifying figure came to devour him, so he stood in the mandala of Yamantaka. Those non-Buddhist dakinis fainted and were on the verge of death. He placed them under oath and then came to Nalanda. After that, he began his conduct. The rest of the history can be found elsewhere. Shantideva was born as the son of the king of Saurashtra. Due to the karma of his previous life, he saw Manjushri in a dream from a young age. When he grew up, when he was about to be appointed as king, in a dream, Manjushri was sitting on the throne to be appointed as king and said: "Son, this is my seat. I am your spiritual friend. It is not appropriate for you and me to sit on the same seat in any way." After saying that, the Holy Tara manifested as his mother,

When poured from the vase, and asked what it was, he was told, "The kingdom is an unbearable hot spring of hell; it is empowering you." Knowing that the kingdom was not to be held, he fled the night before he was to be installed as king the next day. After traveling there for twenty-one days, as he began to drink from a spring at the base of a forest, a woman stopped him and poured him other delicious water, leading him to a yogi in the depths of the forest. From him, he received the correct teachings and practiced, attaining inconceivable samadhi and wisdom. That yogi was Manjushri, and that woman was Tara, and thereafter he always saw the face of Manjushri. Then he went to the east and resided among the retinue of King Five Lions, being very skilled in all the arts and of great intelligence, so he temporarily agreed to be a minister. He held a wooden sword, the emblem of his yidam. There, all unprecedented crafts flourished. Because he allowed the kingdom to be governed according to Dharma, the other ministers became jealous and said to the king, "This man is a deceiver; even his sword is made of wood." So the king had to show the swords of all the ministers. The teacher said, "If this happens, it will harm the deity himself." Therefore, he became even more suspicious and said, "Even if there is harm, it doesn't matter; you must show it." He replied, "Then close your right eye and look with your left." After doing so and showing it, the light of the sword caused the king's left eye to fall out. Then he knew that he had attained accomplishment. He was given much wealth and honor, and was requested to stay. He instructed, "Govern the kingdom according to Dharma, and establish twenty Buddhist sites." Then he went to the central region. He was ordained by Khenpo Gyalwai Lha and was named Zhiwai Lha. There, he stayed with the panditas, and he also ate five large bowls of rice. Inwardly, he practiced samadhi and listened to the Dharma from the noble Manjushri, and he excellently composed the Compendium of Trainings and the Compendium of Sutras. Although he understood all the teachings without exception, he slept day and night, and outwardly he showed as if he did not do any hearing, contemplation, or meditation, so the Sangha
