He said, "How much land? Land that can be covered by one cross-legged posture." "Then I will offer it." Now, when he used his miraculous power to press down the land of nine regions of Kashmir with one cross-legged posture, the Naga said, "How many attendants does the noble one have? Five hundred. If one is missing, it will be taken back." This land was prophesied by the Teacher to be a place suitable for Vipaśyanā (Sanskrit: Vipaśyanā). Where there is a giver, there is a beggar. Brahmins and householders must also enter." Having said this, he entered Kashmir from Uśīra with five hundred attendants, Nima Gungpa, and from Varanasi with hundreds of thousands of Brahmins and householders who were extremely devoted to the Dharma. Then, gradually, many people came from various places. When Nima Gungpa was residing there, there were nine large cities, many villages in the mountains, one royal palace, twelve temples, and a very large Sangha, thus adorning the place. Then, the assembly of Kashmir people were led by miraculous power to the fragrant sandalwood mountain. They subdued the Nagas with the magic of burning flames. When people offered saffron covered by the shadow of Dharma robes, the Arhat transformed the Dharma robes into a large size. Because the shadow of the Dharma robes covered them, everyone picked saffron. Then, in a short time, they arrived in Kashmir again. The land of Kashmir was covered with saffron growing places, showing, "This is the special feature of the increase in your enjoyment." He included all those who lived in Kashmir in the teachings and then passed away. It is said that he taught the Dharma in the land of Kashmir for about twenty years. When Nima Gungpa went to Kashmir, the noble Śāṇavāsa taught the Dharma to the four types of attendants residing in six cities. At one time, King Good Arrow extended his reign for twenty-three years and then passed away. After that, about two thousand of the king's attendants and those who lived on leftovers were ordained by Śāṇavāsa. They and many others spent the summer retreat in the Cool Grove charnel ground. During the disengagement, they looked at the charnel ground and all of them attained the Samadhi of unattractiveness, not for long.

Having accomplished all the distinctions of thinking in this way, he became an Arhat. Then, Nyespa, the son of the incense merchant Spa, saw the truth as soon as he was fully ordained. After seven days, he was completely liberated from both parts of liberation. Then, entrusting the teachings to Nyespa, he passed away in Champa. This Shana-clad one taught the essential instructions before and after, and about a hundred thousand saw the truth. There were also about a million Arhats. In this regard, the Kashmiris believe that Nyimagungpa must also be counted in the lineage of the teachings, because when Nyimagungpa maintained the teachings for fifteen years in the central region, the noble Shana-clad one had few disciples. They say that since Nyimagungpa went to Kashmir, Shana-clad has maintained the teachings, so the lineage of the teachings is the eighth. Others say that Nyimagungpa was prophesied to subdue Kashmir, and was instructed by Kunggawo. Kunggawo entrusted the teachings only to Shana-clad, so the lineage is only seven, and the Tibetans also follow suit. This is the story that happened during the time of King Geshuzang, the third story. Then, Nyespa crossed the Ganges and went to the north, to a place called Rupaka, a place west of Tirahuti, and stayed in a monastery built by a householder named Vasusara, where offerings were made to the Sangha in all four directions. He stayed there for the summer retreat. There, by teaching the essential instructions, a thousand Arhats were accomplished in just three months. Then, he went to the mountain king Gandhara, and by teaching the Dharma there, he also established countless beings in the truth. Then, he came again to the city of Bombara, near the northwestern border of the central region. At the gate of Bombara, where many people were gathered, two men named Nata and Bhatta, who were working as valuers for the leader of the giants, were talking about the virtues of the noble Nyespa, saying how wonderful it would be if the noble Nyespa could stay in the monastery they had built themselves on Mount Shirste (meaning head) in the time of the noble Shana-clad. At that time, Nyespa saw from afar and exclaimed, "Alas, from afar I see those who are tamed!"
