Then, the relic, like a precious ball, was divided into two parts and carried by the waves to both banks. The northern part was taken by Sponga, and the southern part was taken by Ajatashatru, who built stupas in their respective lands. Thus, the Venerable Ananda propagated the teachings for forty years. The year after that, King Ajatashatru also passed away, and after being born in hell for a short time, he died and was reborn in the heavens. It is said that by listening to the Dharma from the Venerable Katyayana, he attained the stream-entry. This is the story of the time of King Ajatashatru, the first one. After that, King Ajatashatru's son, Lakbzaang (Staff-Good), ruled the kingdom. For about seventeen years, he revered the Buddha's teachings. At that time, the Venerable Katyayana also slightly upheld the teachings, but mainly the Venerable Nyimagungpa resided in Varanasi, bestowing transmissions to the fourfold assembly and teaching the Dharma to Brahmins and householders. At another time, many Brahmins and householders in Varanasi became annoyed with many begging monks and began to complain, saying, "It seems there is no other place for monks to beg for alms." They also said, "There is no place more prosperous than Varanasi." They also said, "If we have to feed you, you don't give us anything at all." At that time, the Venerable Nyimagungpa, surrounded by a retinue of one hundred thousand Arhats, flew through the sky and went to Mount Ushira in the north. There, a householder named Aja gathered all the Sangha from the four directions and made a seasonal offering for one year, gathering forty-four thousand Arhats. Due to that circumstance, the teachings spread even more in the north. Thus, Nyimagungpa taught the Dharma in Ushira for three years. At that time, the Venerable Katyayana was residing in Shravasti, teaching the Dharma to the fourfold assembly, and nearly a thousand Arhats appeared. In the past, when King Ajatashatru was in power, there were two Brahmins who did not conform to the Dharma, were very wicked and cruel, ate unclean food, and killed various living beings, named Pana and Nava. Those two

In one instance, the king imposed punishment on them for theft. They became very angry and offered umbrellas and other items to many Arhats, and made the aspiration: "With this virtue, may we be reborn as Yakshas and destroy the king and the people of Magadha!" Once, these two died from a plague and were reborn as Yakshas. When King Lagsang had reigned for seven or eight years, the two of them obtained the position of Yakshas in Magadha and caused a great plague in the region. Many people and livestock died there, and the plague could not be stopped. The diviners learned of this, and the people of Magadha invited the venerable Shana-i-Gosaka from Shravasti and requested him to subdue the two Yakshas. The venerable one also went to the mountain called Gurba where they lived and stayed in the cave of the Yakshas. At that time, the two Yakshas went to visit other Yakshas and were dissuaded by a Yaksha friend. When they returned, they were very angry, and the rocks of the cave collapsed, and another new cave appeared, and the venerable Shana-i-Gosaka was there. After this happened three times, the two Yakshas set fire, and the Arhat set an even greater fire in the ten directions. The two Yakshas were frightened and fled, but all directions were burning, and they could not find a place to escape. They sought refuge in Shana-i-Gosaka, and the fire was extinguished. Then, the venerable one taught them the Dharma, and they became very devoted, took refuge in the Three Jewels, and kept the precepts. The plague subsided immediately. Hundreds of thousands of Brahmins and householders witnessed such miracles. This is the second story that occurred during the time of King Lagsang. After the king passed away, his son Geshe Ong inherited the throne, which was at the same time as Nyima Gungpa conquered Kashmir. Nyima Gungpa went to the place of Kashmir by means of miraculous power and stayed by the lake where the Nagas lived. At that time, the Naga King Audushta and his retinue were very angry and sent down a heavy rain of hail, but the edge of the venerable one's robe did not move. The rain of various weapons turned into flowers, and the Naga came in person and asked what the venerable one desired, and the venerable one said: "Grant me land."
